Manufacturing Engineer

Overview

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will support the development and improvement of manufacturing processes to ensure products are made safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards. You will work closely with production, sales and operations teams to solve problems, improve performance, reduce costs and support the successful manufacture of customer products.

The Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support to production teams to ensure output meets the required quality standards.
• Build strong working relationships with production colleagues to encourage feedback on manufacturing processes.
• Support the resolution of issues that may delay production.
• Maintain a prompt turnaround of orders and work requests through effective day-to-day workload management.
• Improve manufacturing quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness.
• Reduce lead times by improving manufacturing efficiency.
• Develop and introduce improved manufacturing methods to enhance cycle times, workflow and margins.
• Achieve PRIMO project targets, including cost and lead-time reductions.
• Work proactively as part of the engineering team and support a culture of continuous improvement.
• Ensure procedures and process specifications are followed and remain aligned with current company quality approvals.
• Use the corrective action report system effectively as part of problem solving.
• Support the customer feedback process through root cause analysis and problem solving.
• Identify and help resolve anomalies in routings and bills of materials.
• Support sales by assessing the manufacturability of customer enquiries and designs.
• Conduct engineering and manufacturing feasibility reviews and provide accurate estimated costs for new and modified products.
• Review current job costs against actual manufacturing information.
• Check that repeat-order routings reflect batch size and the latest manufacturing methods.
• Create routings for new products, applying manufacturing best practice and collaborating with production teams.
• Input and maintain standard costing, IFS engineering data, work instructions and standard operating procedures.
• Provide support, coaching and training where required, including for Engineering Apprentices.
• Identify training and development needs in relevant areas.
• Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to support cost-effective product manufacture.
• Support a strong EHS culture and the ThinkSafe initiative across the business.

 

Qualifications

• Strong experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Effective communication across all levels of the organisation.
• Experience delivering cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
• HNC qualification or above in an engineering or technical discipline.
• Strong problem-solving capability and a track record of achievement.
• Good financial awareness, numerical ability and understanding of budgets.
• Proven project management experience.
• Lean Six Sigma experience is desirable.
• Experience in batch manufacturing.
