Job Description
The role is that of a management accountant within the Old Mutual Wealth Management Expenses team with functions including Management Reporting, Expense Management, Budgeting/Forecasting, Expense Allocations, Financial Analysis/Interpretation of results and Adhoc Projects.This role requires an energetic self-driven individual that enjoys engaging with various stakeholders across the organisation on various expense related topics.
Key responsibilities will include amongst others:
- Managing month-end closure. Ensures validity, accuracy and completeness of transactions in the general ledger. This extends to general ledgers in the broader segment entities, in relation to expenses.
- Preparation of complex journals such as IFRS2, IFRS16 and Long-/Medium term incentive schemes.
- Review/Prepare monthly expense allocations within the segment. This requires a full understanding of the allocation methodology, including understanding of IFRS17 methodology, within the Segment. Assist with the annual review and implementation of revised methodology.
- Generate internal financial/management reports and presentations including commentary.
- Monthly Balance Sheet and Income Statement reconciliations – Review, maintain suitable financial control and drive corrective action through others.
- Distribute budget variance reports to Exco and various stakeholders with commentary to enable the business to manage expenses appropriately.
- VAT – good understanding of VAT treatment, regular review of treatment and drive system updates where necessary. Assist with annual VAT apportionment review.
- Expense Management/Financial/Process support to the business.
- Monitoring application of expense Group Policies, and escalate instances of out of policy expenditure.
- Drive expense governance with the various business stakeholders and budget centre owners.
- Manage reporting and budget centre owner hierarchies.
- Co-ordination of the financial requirements and deliveries for expense budgets during the Annual Business Planning cycle.
- Assist with the quarterly expense forecasting process.
- Identify risks and proactively implement reconciliations and controls.
- Drive process improvements and efficiencies.
- Responsible for audit liaisons which is aligned to Group audit sign off.
- Drive annual review process of procurement credit cards and fixed assets
- Cashflow management.
- Short Term Incentive reconciliation process to be performed annually to align accounting and account for over/under provision accurately.

Qualifications and Experience required:
- BCom accounting or similar.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a Management Accounting role.
- IFRS 16 and Incentive Scheme (IFRS 2) experience required. IFRS 17 understanding beneficial.
- High Proficiency in Excel skills would be required.
- Oracle Financials experience would be beneficial.
- Previous Expense management and Allocations experience required.
- Ability to build relationships across the business with various stakeholders and gain commitment.
- Strong information monitoring skills and decision making.
- Good communication skills – written & verbal.
- Ability to deal with conflicting deliveries and working in a high pressured environment.
