This role leads high-performing teams responsible for growing and stewarding volunteer involvement, in-kind contributions, and community partnerships across the tri-county service area.

The Senior Director sets strategy, drives measurable engagement growth, and ensures community engagement efforts are aligned with organizational priorities, donor experience, and mission impact. Key responsibilities include team leadership, cross-functional collaboration, partner and donor cultivation, oversight of engagement initiatives and events, and the use of data to inform continuous improvement.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive community engagement and volunteerism strategy that advances donor cultivation, stewardship, revenue growth, and mission impact.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Lead, coach, and develop teams responsible for volunteer engagement and in-kind donations; establish clear goals, performance metrics, accountability structures, and professional development plans.
  • Volunteer Engagement Growth: Expand and enhance volunteer programs to increase participation, retention, satisfaction, and conversion of volunteers into donors, advocates, and long-term champions of the mission.
  • Community Partnerships: Build, strengthen, and steward strategic partnerships with corporate, faith-based, civic, school, and community organizations to deepen engagement, increase support, and expand Metropolitan Ministries’ reach.
  • Donor Pathway Development: Design and manage intentional engagement pathways—including volunteerism, drives, tours, events, and group experiences—that move individuals and organizations toward deeper philanthropic investment.
  • In-Kind Donation Strategy: Oversee community donation initiatives, including solicitation, collection, stewardship, reporting, and alignment with organizational priorities and program needs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Advancement, Marketing, Programs, Operations, and site leadership to align messaging, engagement opportunities, volunteer needs, and the overall donor and partner experience.
  • Events and Engagement Experiences: Oversee volunteer- and community-facing events, including Holiday Central, ensuring high-quality, mission-centered experiences that inspire giving, deepen connection, and encourage ongoing involvement.
  • Data and Performance Management: Use CRM, volunteer management, and engagement data to track outcomes, measure impact, evaluate return on engagement, and inform strategy, growth, forecasting, and continuous improvement.
  • Mission Integration: Champion Metropolitan Ministries’ mission, values, and culture by fostering service, compassion, excellence, and cultural humility while engaging diverse communities with professionalism and care.
