Job Description:
The Assistant Professor – Research is a non-tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Construction Management. The incumbent will lead an independent, externally funded research program in building science, energy systems, and indoor environmental quality, with emphasis on whole-building energy simulation, computational fluid dynamics, HVAC control optimization, and data-driven engineering. The position carries PI/Co-PI eligibility on sponsored research submissions and is responsible for directing research teams including graduate students and postdoctoral researchers on concurrent funded projects. This role supports the Department's strategic research priorities in sustainable built environments, intelligent building systems, and facilities management.
60% Conduct research in building science, energy systems and indoor environmental quality with emphasis on whole-building energy simulation, computational fluid dynamics, HVAC control optimization, and data-driven engineering.
20% Develop and submit research proposals to federal, state, and industry sponsors (NSF, DOE, DOD, ASHRAE, etc.). Assemble research teams and write technical narratives.
15% Direct day-to-day research activities of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. Serve on doctoral committees. Support student progression toward degree completion.
5% Participate in departmental and college committees. Contribute to journal peer review, editorial activities, and professional society service. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or closely related field with 2 years of experience, specifically in research, proposal writing, research program management is required. Superior oral and written communications and interpersonal skills are essential. Excellent computer and statistical skills are essential.
