CONNECTICUT GREEN BANK

SENIOR MANAGER OF ORIGINATION, ENVIRONMENTAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAMS

SUMMARY:

The Connecticut Green Bank's Environmental Infrastructure Programs team is seeking a Senior Manager of Origination to build our investment pipeline with a focus on organic waste management solutions and Environmental Infrastructure ("EI") initiatives generally.

The Green Bank, a quasi-public authority, is the nation's first state "Green Bank," leveraging public funds to increase and accelerate private investment in the green economy of Connecticut. Working at the Green Bank means being part of a dynamic team of talented people who are passionate about implementing the green bank model, stimulating the growth and development of clean energy and environmental infrastructure investment in Connecticut - growing our economy, strengthening our communities, and protecting our environment.

Under Public Act 21-115, the EI Programs team advances the Green Bank's business model across water, waste and recycling, climate adaptation and resiliency, agriculture, land conservation, parks and recreation, and environmental markets. The Senior Manager of Origination will drive the transaction lifecycle through sourcing, analysis, structuring, closing, and ongoing management of organic waste and broader EI lending transactions in close coordination with the Legal and Investment teams. The role will work closely with the Director and Associate Director of Environmental Infrastructure Programs to manage transactions and origination activities, building a robust pipeline of investable opportunities. The successful candidate will be responsible for proactively identifying and cultivating financing opportunities from conception through to successful close and evaluation.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Work with the Director of Environmental Infrastructure to build a pipeline of program participants interested in EI solutions the Green Bank would fund;
  • Originate, Source, and Lead Transactions:
    • Lead the sourcing and screening of mission-aligned investment opportunities, assessing eligibility and strategic fit. Lead RFIs, RFPs, and other market solicitation efforts;
    • In partnership with the Legal and Investment teams, conduct due diligence and analyses, assess risk, determine financing pathways, produce investment materials, and manage the closing process;
  • Build and Maintain Pipeline: Drive lead generation and build a pipeline of investible projects aligned with EI strategy and market development priorities;
  • Market & Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and nurture relationships with prospective and existing customers or market participants (e.g. project developers, entrepreneurs, consultants, peer agencies, and capital partners) to identify and originate financing opportunities;
  • Financing Program Development: Identify market opportunities and address barriers for existing and new Green Bank financial offerings to animate markets in alignment with team strategy and close collaboration with Director, Associate Director, and colleagues;
  • Reporting: Provide updates and reporting as relevant to Green Bank colleagues, Board of Directors, legislature, and peer agencies;
  • Depending on team need and the candidate's background, additional duties may include:
    • Quantitative analysis (e.g. financial or sensitivity analysis to support program development and R&D explorations);
    • Consultant management (e.g. where outside capacity or expertise needed);
    • Contract management (e.g. contracts, invoices, non-disclosure agreements, etc.);
    • Public policy (e.g. support the preparation of and response to priority policy actions);
    • Social and environmental impact (track, communicate key performance indicators); and
    • Representation (e.g. represent the Green Bank in relevant board, committee, public meetings, conferences, and networking events);
  • May in the future supervise Green Bank staff, including associates and interns; and,
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The following minimum qualifications in knowledge, skill and ability are required:

  • Proven business development, lead generation, and origination experience, ideally in the organic waste management space (e.g. prevention, rescue, and recycling);

  • Knowledge of and direct experience with the process of project tracking and management with particular emphasis on customer support;
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Ability to understand various environmental infrastructure terminology and KPIs, including tons diverted from disposal, greenhouse gas and air pollution reduction, and other impact metrics;
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and courteously through oral and written communications;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently, taking initiative, managing uncertainty, exercising judgment, and thinking critically and creatively;
  • Must be a self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset and have the ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment;
  • Adaptability and collaboration, with an ability to balance rigor with creativity, humor, curiosity, and humility to further our growing team's ethos;
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other software programs as necessary;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong financial and analytical skills, with experience in underwriting, modeling, or risk analysis.
  • Knowledge of environmental infrastructure sectors and market dynamics, including organic waste management, recycling and the circular economy, water and wastewater systems, and the policy, regulatory, and financing landscape that shapes investment in these areas;
