Description
The Logistics Analyst (Special Projects) serves as the lead logistics integrator for a dedicated special project, responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and executing Integrated Product Support (IPS) activities required to deliver a complete logistics solution. This position provides expertise across provisioning, maintenance analysis, product support, technical writing, sparing, Packaging, Handling, Storage and Transportation (PHS&T), and sustainment planning while serving as the primary interface between engineering, program management, supply chain, manufacturing, field operations, and Government stakeholders.
The successful candidate will independently develop logistics products, technical documentation, and sustainment strategies that support system development, production, fielding, and long-term sustainment in accordance with contractual requirements and Department of Defense acquisition guidance.
Primary Responsibilities
Logistics Integration
● Serve as the logistics lead for a dedicated special project from project initiation through delivery.
● Develop integrated logistics plans, schedules, and execution strategies supporting project objectives.
● Coordinate logistics activities across engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, quality, configuration management, depot operations, and program leadership.
● Participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), technical interchange meetings, customer reviews, and design reviews.
● Identify logistics risks, develop mitigation strategies, and provide recommendations to program leadership.
Technical Writing & Documentation
● Develop, write, edit, and maintain technical documentation supporting system acquisition and sustainment.
● Author logistics plans, white papers, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, technical reports, and executive briefings.
● Develop Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) deliverables in accordance with contract requirements.
● Translate complex engineering concepts into clear, concise, technically accurate documentation suitable for Government review and approval.
● Coordinate technical documentation with engineering, quality assurance, and configuration management to ensure technical accuracy and document consistency.
● Support development of technical manuals and logistics support documentation.
Product Support
● Develop Product Support documentation supporting acquisition and sustainment activities.
● Assist in developing Life Cycle Sustainment Plans (LCSPs).
● Support Product Support Management planning and execution.
● Develop sustainment strategies supporting system readiness throughout the life cycle.
● Coordinate logistics planning across all applicable Integrated Product Support (IPS) elements.
● Evaluate product support requirements and recommend process improvements that enhance operational readiness while reducing lifecycle cost.
Provisioning
● Analyze engineering drawings, Bills of Material, and technical data packages to develop provisioning documentation.
● Develop Provisioning Parts Lists (PPLs), provisioning data, and logistics support records.
● Support provisioning conferences and customer reviews.
● Maintain provisioning databases and coordinate provisioning updates throughout system development.
Maintenance Analysis
● Conduct maintenance planning and maintenance task analysis.
● Support Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) activities.
● Develop maintenance concepts supporting organizational, intermediate, and depot maintenance.
● Evaluate maintainability requirements and identify opportunities to improve system supportability.
● Coordinate maintenance planning activities with engineering and field support organizations.
Sparing & Supply Support
● Perform sparing analyses supporting initial provisioning and lifecycle sustainment.
● Develop recommended spare parts requirements and stockage strategies.
● Analyze equipment usage, reliability data, and maintenance trends to recommend support solutions.
● Coordinate supply support planning with logistics, procurement, and depot organizations.
Packaging, Handling, Storage and Transportation (PHS&T)
● Develop PHS&T requirements supporting transportation system and long-term storage.
● Coordinate preservation, packaging, marking, storage, and transportation requirements.
● Ensure compliance with military standards and contractual packaging requirements.
● Support deployment planning and transportation readiness activities.
Engineering & Configuration Support
● Assess engineering changes for impacts to logistics documentation, provisioning data, maintenance planning, sparing requirements, and technical publications.
● Coordinate logistics inputs supporting Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs).
● Maintain configuration awareness to ensure logistics products remain synchronized with system design.
Sustainment Analysis
● Develop logistics metrics and readiness reports supporting program management.
● Analyze logistics performance data and recommend corrective actions.
● Develop executive-level briefings and project status reports.
● Identify opportunities to improve logistics processes, increase readiness, reduce lifecycle costs, and improve customer support.
Required Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Engineering, Technical Writing, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related discipline. Relevant military or industry experience may be substituted for education.
● Typically requires a BA degree and 12 – 15 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 10 – 13 years of prior relevant experience.
● Experience supporting Department of Defense acquisition, production, fielding, or sustainment programs.
● Experience developing technical documentation and customer deliverables.
● Experience supporting Integrated Product Support (IPS) activities.
● Strong technical writing, editing, and document development skills.
● Ability to analyze engineering drawings, technical documentation, and system configuration data.
● Excellent organizational, analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
● Ability to work independently while coordinating across multiple functional organizations.
