If you are looking for a place where you can make a difference in the life of a child, Project Harmony is looking for you.  We are seeking an experienced and committed Senior Accountant to join our dynamic and innovative organization.  The Senior Accountant supports Project Harmony’s financial integrity by preparing accurate, timely financial information and contributing to effective financial reporting, grant tracking, and month-end close processes. This position is responsible for revenue release procedures, financial allocations, grant accounting, budgets, projections, and related documentation. The Senior Accountant works closely with the Finance Manager, Finance Team, and program leaders to ensure financial information is accurate, well-supported, and useful for decision-making.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Review accounts payable processes and transactions to ensure timely, accurate posting and appropriate documentation
  • Perform month-end revenue release procedures for private grants and funding, in coordination with the Development team, to ensure funding purposes and restrictions are accurately applied
  • Prepare and review journal entries and cost allocations for posting to the general ledger to support accurate financial statement presentation
  • Reconcile investment accounts monthly and resolve variances in a timely manner
  • Reconcile deferred compensation accounts monthly and ensure balances are accurately recorded
  • Complete month-end fixed asset procedures, including capitalization of new assets and preparation of depreciation entries
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, prepare supporting documentation, and recommend adjusting entries as needed
  • Execute timely month-end close procedures to support accurate and complete financial reporting
  • Support the annual financial audit process by preparing schedules, responding to information requests, and coordinating with independent auditors
  • Review audit recommendations and recommend updates to internal control procedures when appropriate
  • Develop grant budgets, prepare related forecasts and projections, and produce monthly grant financial reports
  • Contribute to agency financial policy updates to reflect current best practices and strengthen financial controls
  • Stay current on accounting and auditing standards relevant to nonprofit financial management
  • Maintain and expand technical accounting knowledge to support compliance with nonprofit and industry standards
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality financial work
  • Provide culturally competent service and collaboration without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, gender, or sexual orientation
  • Support payroll and grant accounting processes assigned
  • Complete special projects and other accounting-related duties as assigned

Requirements

Qualifications


Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Accounting, Finance or related business field


Experience and Training

  • 5+ years of previous work experience in accounting required
  • Grant accounting experience preferred


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Maintain strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting, reconciliations, and documentation
  • Use sound judgment, organization, and time management to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities
  • Analyze financial data and reporting needs to support clear, useful information for leadership and program teams
  • Apply working knowledge of fiscal management systems, accounting processes, and internal controls
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial tracking, reporting, and workflow efficiency
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in writing, verbally, and through active listening
  • Use Microsoft Office and accounting software effectively, including systems with modular processing platforms
  • Build collaborative working relationships with co-workers, vendors, donors, and business partners
  • Work independently and collaboratively with a self-directed, solutions-focused approach
  • Exercise strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Manage multiple projects while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high standard of professional ethics



Other

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours
  • Must submit to a thorough criminal history background check
  • Must have access to a vehicle, possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
  • Position may involve some travel, primarily within the state
