What our Veterinary Assistants Do
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and medical procedures
- Provide compassionate, high-quality care from patient intake through discharge
- Safely handle and restrain patients while prioritizing comfort and safety
- Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
- Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, fluid therapy, and diagnostic sample collection based on experience and training
- Obtain high-quality radiographs and maintain imaging standards
- Utilize Fear Free® and low-stress handling techniques to promote patient comfort and safety
- Obtain thorough patient histories and communicate relevant information to the medical team
- Educate clients with compassion, clarity, and confidence regarding patient care, medications, discharge instructions, and preventive healthcare
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records and treatment documentation
- Keep treatment and exam areas clean, organized, stocked, and ready for patients
- Follow hospital infection-control and safety protocols
- Collaborate with doctors and teammates to keep the hospital running smoothly
What You'll Bring
- Previous veterinary assistant or veterinary clinical experience
- Safe and effective patient handling and restraint skills
- Knowledge of preventive care, vaccines, and patient wellness
- Experience with venipuncture, phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, fluid therapy, and sample collection
- Experience obtaining quality radiographs and assisting with diagnostic imaging
- Understanding of medication administration and basic veterinary pharmacology
- Ability to obtain thorough patient histories and recognize concerns that should be brought to the medical team's attention
- Professional and compassionate communication with clients and teammates
- Confidence educating clients about treatments, medications, discharge instructions, and preventive care
- Strong documentation skills and attention to accurate medical records
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced clinical environment
