The Opportunity

You might think printing is a business of the past - but let us help you understand why it is a platform for the future. We dominate our market segment and are highly profitable, enabling us to focus on growing our business in new and unique ways.

At TPI, printing is the visible output of a business powered by data, technology, and people. We have built a strong position serving the casino industry through data-driven marketing and variable-data production. Our next chapter is about building on that success: modernizing our technology infrastructure, applying AI and automation in meaningful ways, and expanding what we can accomplish for our customers.

We are looking for a VP of Technology who wants to help lead that next chapter.

This is an opportunity to do more than manage an IT department. You will shape our technology direction, develop our people, challenge how work gets done, and turn good ideas into measurable business improvements. You will have a seat at the leadership table, direct access to the CEO, and the opportunity to help determine where the business goes next.

TPI is also an employee-owned company through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). That gives this work added meaning: the improvements you lead can strengthen the business and help build long-term value for the employees who own it. You will be leading technology in a company where the people doing the work have a stake in its success.

We use the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) to align priorities, strengthen accountability, and turn plans into action. As a member of our executive team, you will help us refine and strengthen how we put that framework to work as the company grows.

We need a leader who can protect what makes TPI successful today - and help us build what will make it even stronger tomorrow.

Your Mandate: Protect the Business. Elevate Its Capabilities. Lead What Comes Next.

Our customers depend on us to handle sensitive data accurately and deliver reliably. Secure, resilient technology is essential to that trust. Maintaining it is a nonnegotiable part of this role - but it is not the limit of the role.

Your mandate is to build on that foundation and make technology an increasingly powerful contributor to TPI's productivity, quality, customer service, and growth.

You will lead internal software development, automation, infrastructure, IT operations, technical support, information security, and data governance for TPI's core business. Working closely with Operations and other executive leaders, you will connect these functions into a coordinated technology organization serving all TPI locations.

What You Will Lead

  • A clear technology direction. Develop and execute a practical technology strategy that supports where TPI wants to go. Modernize infrastructure, applications, and workflows while balancing future opportunities with the demands of a business that must perform every day.
  • Innovation that produces real results. Identify where automation, AI, and better use of data can eliminate manual work, improve accuracy, increase capacity, and strengthen customer service. Help teams move from ideas to implementation, with clear measures of business value.
  • Reliable operations and customer trust. Set meaningful expectations for system availability, support, recovery, and service. Lead business continuity, tested disaster-recovery plans, and incident response. Own the information security program, including PCI DSS compliance, SOC 2 audit readiness, and applicable gaming-related data requirements. Establish strong standards for the accuracy, integrity, security, and handling of client and patron data.
  • A stronger technology team. Develop and mentor director- and manager-level leaders across a geographically diverse organization. Build technical depth, clear accountability, and effective collaboration. Create an environment where people understand the business, bring forward ideas, and take ownership of results.
  • Partnership across the business. Work alongside Operations and other leaders to understand where technology helps - and where it gets in the way. Translate business needs into practical solutions and explain technology choices clearly to employees, customers, executive peers, and the Board. Reinforce shared priorities and follow-through through TPI's EOS practices.
  • Disciplined execution and investment. Prioritize projects based on business value, risk, capacity, cost, and operational impact. Manage technology budgets, staffing plans, capital investments, and vendor relationships. Hold teams and partners accountable for delivery, service, security, and measurable returns.

Your Partnership with Technology

TPI's Mobile division represents an additional opportunity for collaboration, with separate business and product leadership.

The VP of Technology will partner with Mobile leadership where shared enterprise infrastructure, security, data governance, or integration capabilities can enable its success. Ownership of Mobile software development, its product roadmap, commercial strategy, and financial performance remains outside this role.

The expectation is a productive partnership with clear accountability - not overlapping ownership.

Requirements

What Success Looks Like

Success will be visible in both the performance of today's business and the capabilities we build for tomorrow:

  • Dependable operations and protected data: Strong system availability, effective support, improved cybersecurity, compliance readiness, and demonstrated recovery capability.
  • Measurable business improvements: Less manual work, greater productivity, better quality, stronger customer service, and documented cost savings or capacity gains.
  • A technology roadmap that gets delivered: Business-prioritized projects completed with clear ownership, appropriate investment discipline, and measurable results.
  • A capable, accountable team: Stronger leaders, deeper skills, effective collaboration, and continued development and retention of talent.
  • Confidence in technology leadership: Business leaders understand the priorities, trust the execution, and see technology as a partner in moving TPI forward.

The Leader We Are Looking For

You are a business-minded technology leader who can think strategically without losing touch with execution. You are comfortable discussing the company's future with the Board, working through a production challenge with Operations, and helping your team make a sound technical decision.

You know that modernization requires more than new tools. It requires judgment, communication, capable people, and the ability to bring an organization along.

Ideal candidates will bring:

  • Substantial technology leadership experience, typically 10 or more years of progressive responsibility, including at least three years as a CIO, VP of IT, or equivalent senior leader.
  • Success in an operationally demanding business, preferably a mid-sized, multi-location organization where uptime, customer commitments, and daily execution matter.
  • Breadth across technology disciplines, including internal software development, automation, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and data governance, with experience leading through directors and managers.
  • Demonstrated operational and security judgment, including business continuity, disaster recovery, direct incident-response experience, and PCI DSS and/or SOC 2 experience in a production or transaction-processing environment.
  • Practical business and financial discipline, including project prioritization, budgeting, vendor negotiations, and a record of turning technology investments into business results.
  • A hands-on leadership style, with the ability to work effectively in a mid-sized company rather than depend on a large corporate support structure.

Location and Working Expectations

This is a full-time executive leadership position based at TPI's headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa, with hybrid flexibility. A minimum of three days per week at headquarters is expected, with additional presence at TPI facilities as leadership, operational, customer, or technology needs require.

The role includes occasional travel to TPI locations, key customer sites, and industry conferences. Availability outside normal business hours is required when significant operational, security, or business-continuity issues call for executive involvement.

Physical requirements include regular sitting, standing, walking, detailed visual work, and computer use, with occasional bending or squatting when working with equipment.

The opportunity is to help an already successful company become more capable, more competitive, and better prepared for its future - and to do it alongside the employees who own it..

TPI is 100% Employee-Owned (ESOP). When we grow, you grow—because our people truly make the difference.
