This is a hybrid position with expectations of on-site days for training, coordination, meetings, and event planning.

Why It's a Great Opportunity:

Pierce County Human Resources is looking for a reliable and creative Training Coordinator to support the Learning and Development Team. In this role, you will help deliver meaningful and accessible coordination and some training for employees across the County. We are seeking someone who is forward-thinking, strong in coordination and communication, and ready to improve learning processes in a dynamic, service-focused environment.

As a Training Coordinator, you will provide administrative, logistical, and technical support that keeps our learning programs running smoothly. You will manage training schedules, prepare clear communications, coordinate rooms and materials, support Workday Learning, and work directly with HR Partners and external contractors. You will also support Welcoming Workplace efforts and may facilitate some existing classes.

Why It's a Great Department:

Pierce County Human Resources supports the workforce that supports all of Pierce County. We deliver innovative, specialized services to support a high-performing and diverse workforce. We provide guidance, support and expertise on performance management, protected leave, County policies, state law and many other topics. You’ll join a collaborative, professional, and mission-driven team committed to serving all County employees. The Human Resources department embraces a modern work environment where members of our team have flexibility and autonomy. Within the department, hybrid and remote work are the norms, and we maintain a consistent, intentional focus on continuous improvement, the pursuit of excellence, and a welcoming workplace culture.

How to be Successful in the Role:

To excel in this role, you will need to stay organized, communicate clearly, and respond well when priorities change. You will work closely with your teammates, so collaboration and a helpful approach are essential. Proactive thinking, curiosity, and an interest in improving how we deliver training will help you contribute meaningfully to the Learning and Development Team.

This position gives you the chance to support employee growth across Pierce County by coordinating programs that make a real difference. You will work with a collaborative HR team that values flexibility, practical problem-solving, steady improvement, and a welcoming workplace culture. Hybrid work is part of our regular schedule, and you will have many opportunities to build relationships, find solutions, and improve training experiences countywide.

Your Future in this Role:

As a member of the Learning and Development Team, you will learn the role by working closely with your teammates and supporting daily training operations. Over time, you will become a trusted resource in scheduling trainings, preparing communications, coordinating with contractors and HR Partners, and supporting Workday and website updates. Your work will directly improve the learning experience for Pierce County employees and will help build a strong foundation for future growth within Human Resources and across the County.

Core Daily Responsibilities:

  • Research, plan, administer, and schedule training programs and sessions.
  • Facilitate selected training sessions and support presenters.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain and update the countywide training library.
  • Collect and analyze training statistics and data.
  • Create presentations utilizing graphs, charts, and spreadsheets.
  • Maintain and track training records in the PCLMS database, including certification and expiration dates.
  • Support a flexible schedule when needed, including occasional evenings or weekends.

A classification description with a more detailed list of essential functions can be found here.

  • Additional education or experience which clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of this position may substitute on a year for year basis.
  • Two years of college level training in education, business administration, industrial hygiene, communications, or closely related field of study.
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience in planning and implementing training and/or safety programs is required.
  • Positions in specific program areas may require program-related experience, education, and/or training.
  • Please attach a current resume and cover letter with your application. Failure to attach these will result in an incomplete application.

As a condition of employment, the applicant will need to authorize and complete a background check. Information received from the background check is reviewed case-by-case and will not necessarily remove an applicant from consideration.

How to Apply:

  • Complete and submit a detailed online Pierce County Employment Application by selecting “APPLY” above or visiting www.piercecountywa.gov/jobs.
  • If you have questions about this opportunity, email the Recruitment Team at [email protected] and include the job number and title.

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship.

Our Recruitment Practices:

This is a competitive and meritorious selection process. Pierce County applications are reviewed by human hiring staff in accordance with the qualifications listed for the position. Pierce County understands applicants may use AI tools when preparing application materials. We recognize these tools can make the process easier; however, we ask that everything you submit genuinely reflects your own experience, skills, knowledge, and writing style.

During the interview process, you may be asked to demonstrate your skills, including writing and subject knowledge, and to speak to your experience in your own voice. Applicants should be prepared to respond to interview questions without relying on AI-generated responses or reading prepared answers from a screen. Any misrepresentation may result in disqualification or separation.

Applicants whose qualifications most closely align with the County’s needs will be eligible for further consideration. Notification of application status typically occurs within two to three weeks after the closing date. Some applicants may receive short notice to participate in additional selection steps, which may include assessments, phone screens, or interviews.

Upon offer, compensation is based on a range of job-related factors, including the requirements of the role, your skills and experience, and internal pay equity.

Our Welcoming Workplace Commitment:

Pierce County is committed to fostering a Welcoming Workplace where employees are supported, respected, and able to thrive. We believe a strong public workforce is representative of the community it serves and that fair and just access to opportunity strengthens public service.

Guided by the County Executive’s Forward Together mission, Pierce County works to build communities that are safe, welcoming, and connected. This same commitment shapes how we recruit, develop, and retain our employees. County employees make a direct and visible impact in the lives of residents every day, and we invite you to join us in helping keep Pierce County a place people are proud to call home.
