Senior Accountant - GL & Manufacturing

Fortem Technologies is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support the monthly financial close and general ledger accounting functions. This is a hands-on role with significant responsibility for balance sheet reconciliations, inventory and cost accounting, journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and other month-end close activities. The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Controller and the AP and AR functions to strengthen the monthly close process, improve account reconciliations, and support the continued stabilization and development of accounting processes within Odoo ERP. This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable independently researching accounting issues, working through complex reconciliations, and identifying the underlying cause of discrepancies rather than simply processing transactions.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain monthly general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations, including researching and resolving reconciling items.
• Support the month-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and variance analysis.
• Maintain and reconcile inventory-related accounts, including inventory, prepaid inventory, un-invoiced receipts, inventory accruals, and COGS.
• Work closely with Purchasing, Manufacturing, and AP to resolve PO, receipt, vendor invoice, inventory valuation, and cutoff differences.
• Prepare and maintain prepaid expense and fixed asset schedules, including amortization, depreciation, additions, and disposals.
• Assist with customer billing, including reviewing sales orders, contracts, shipments, and milestones to help ensure invoices are complete, accurate, and timely.
• Work with AR, Sales, Program Management, and Shipping to research and resolve billing discrepancies and provide backup support for customer invoicing as needed.
• Reconcile and analyze revenue-related accounts, including deferred revenue, customer deposits, unbilled receivables, and AR clearing accounts.
• Review general ledger activity for unusual, duplicate, incorrectly classified, or improperly dated transactions and recommend appropriate corrections.
• Support sales/use tax, bank and credit-card reconciliations, external audit requests, and other recurring accounting requirements.
• Assist with improving and documenting accounting procedures, reconciliation templates, billing processes, and month-end close controls, including accounting issues related to Odoo.
• Other accounting and finance tasks as assigned by the Controller or CFO.

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably including significant general ledger and month-end close responsibility.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and accrual accounting.
• Demonstrated experience preparing complex balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries.
• Strong understanding of the relationship between purchasing, receiving, inventory, AP, and COGS.
• Experience with manufacturing, inventory, or product-based accounting strongly preferred.
• Experience working in an ERP environment required; Odoo experience is a plus but not required.
• Strong Excel skills, including experience working with large data sets and reconciliation schedules.
• Ability to independently research accounting discrepancies and bring issues to resolution.
• Strong attention to detail while maintaining an understanding of the overall financial statement impact.
• Ability to work effectively in a changing, fast-paced environment and help develop processes as the accounting organization matures.
