The Senior Engineer is a role that is responsible for delivering against the various aspects of product engineering from inception to deployment and production support. The role is performed by engineers who have demonstrated proficiency in several technical specialisations, such as “Software”, “Data”, “Security”, “Support & Reliability” and will have or gain deep knowledge in one or more business domains (e.g. Trading, Portfolio, Advice).
The senior engineer role offers an advancement opportunity to Engineers who have obtained the technical engineering and leadership attributes required to perform at this level. Combined with behavioural attributes that focus on business outcomes delivered in a consistent way of working, the role focuses on driving the success of Iress and its clients.

- Delivers high-quality, robust, and secure software using automated testing and continuous delivery techniques.
- Contributes to architectural design, feature requirements, and solution analysis to drive effective team outcomes.
- Mentors and coaches junior engineers to uplift code quality and foster strong cross-functional collaboration.
- Provides proactive support and troubleshooting to ensure application reliability and minimize key person risk.
- Drives efficiency and scalability by automating manual tasks and leveraging strategic platform tools.
What you will bring
- Proven expertise in backend engineering and server-side development using Node.js, asynchronous programming, and modern backend frameworks.
- Extensive experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable API solutions (RESTful, GraphQL, socket-based, or microservices integrations).
- Solid understanding of modern frontend frameworks and principles to effectively collaborate with frontend teams and troubleshoot end-to-end issues.
- Strong focus on application and system architecture, applying clean code and SOLID principles to build maintainable and resilient software.
- Leadership in automated testing strategies across the deployment pipeline, emphasizing performance, load, and security testing.
- Hands-on experience with cloud architecture, DevOps practices, and infrastructure automation using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or Docker.
- Track record of establishing automated CI/CD build and deployment pipelines (e.g., BuildKite, Jenkins) to reliably move software into production.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers and uplifting engineering standards across the team.
