Description
You’ll need to be curious about how the underlying business operates and comfortable questioning information, investigating variances and looking for ways to improve the quality and efficiency of financial reporting. Experience within fuels, energy, logistics, commodities or another operationally complex business would be an advantage rather than essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and review transaction processing undertaken by Operational Finance, working with key stakeholders to ensure transactions are processed and coded correctly.
- Prepare and review management accounts relating to Gross Margin Costs, including relevant balance sheet accounts, in line with Group accounting policies and reporting timetables
- Ensure the accuracy and quality of supporting files for cost accruals and other key accounting balances
- Lead balance sheet reviews for relevant accounts for review by Group Financial Controlling
- Maintain strong financial controls across Gross Margin Costs, ensuring compliance with Group accounting policies and internal control requirements.
- Support the month-end close in line with the Group timetable
- Prepare meaningful variance analysis and clear performance narratives to support the UK Supply management team and enable effective decision-making around costs
- Develop a strong understanding of the operational and commercial drivers of Gross Margin Costs to improve the quality of reporting, forecasting and analysis.
- Support the preparation of budgets and forecasts for Gross Margin Costs
- Ensure assumptions are aligned with knowledge of the underlying business areas and reflect the latest direction from key stakeholders and the Leadership Team
- Monitor actual and forecast performance, identifying and challenging significant movements and assumptions where appropriate.
- Become a valued finance partner to the UK Supply team, providing insightful financial analysis and constructive commercial challenge
- Lead discussions with key stakeholders where required and build strong relationships across Finance, Middle Office Risk, Operational Finance and the relevant Leadership Team.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls and data across the Finance function where these impact the team
- Work across relevant teams to resolve identified issues and improve the efficiency, accuracy and quality of financial reporting
- Support projects within the team and wider Finance function, using data and analysis to drive efficiencies and productivity improvements.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Qualified accountant – CIMA, ACCA or ACA
- Degree or equivalent qualification/experience
- Experience undertaking month-end procedures and associated reporting, including budgets and forecasts
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret significant quantities of financial data and relate this to underlying business and cost drivers
- Strong communicator, able to develop credible relationships across the business and constructively challenge stakeholders
- Questioning and inquisitive, with a drive to identify improvements and efficiencies
- Strong personal ownership and accountability for the accuracy and quality of work
- Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-moving environment
- Ambitious and enthusiastic, with a desire to develop within the organisation.
- Knowledge of Oracle
- Experience within fuels, energy, logistics, commodities or another operationally complex environment
