CDL Driver 2

Description

JOB SUMMARY: A CDL Driver 2 is responsible to drive a tractor-trailer combination or a truck with a capacity of at least 26,001 Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) and support agricultural activities. This includes delivering liquids and dry mixes, delivering seed, hauling NH3 and grain. They will load agricultural products in the truck, in customer vehicles and in shuttles. In addition, they will perform required maintenance on the trucks and on equipment in the agronomy plant. A CDL Driver 2 also trains and mentors CDL Driver 1 team members. They also assist in the agronomy plant as needed. They will perform their responsibilities in a safe manner that will optimize the company’s market share and savings, improve the efficiency, help achieve the mission and goals, and provide outstanding customer service. The CDL Driver 2 will maintain a positive attitude that promotes teamwork within the entire company and a favorable image of the company.  

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Ability to obtain operational knowledge of trucks located at assigned location and knowledge of applicable OSHA, State, EPA, and DOT regulations.
2. Ability to inspect and maintain trucks, safely operate them on the road and into delivery area.
3. Ability to gain working knowledge of agricultural products being handled, including MSDS knowledge. 
4. Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Hazardous Materials and Tanker endorsements.
5. Willingness to train and mentor other CDL Drivers
6. Ability to learn and operate all aspects of agronomy plant, including repair and maintenance.
7. Able to work independently with minimum supervision.
8. Utilize basic computer and data entry skills.
9. Ability to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
10. Ability to deal with emotional customers and help resolve complaints.

Requirements

JOB DUTIES:

1. Perform driving duties properly and in accordance with work orders.
2. Operate and maintain delivery equipment properly and in accordance with manufacture’s maintenance manuals and operator manuals. Report needed maintenance work or replacement of equipment to Agronomy Operations Manager when necessary.
3. Mix agronomy products properly in accordance with quality standards.
4. Train, mentor and develop other CDL Drivers in all aspects of role, including compliance, inspection, maintenance, safe loading and unloading practices and safe truck operation.
5. Assist in agronomy plant operations including pre-check and operation of plant equipment, loading and unloading product, safely and efficiently operating all aspects of plant and repair and maintenance of plant.
6. Report inventory needs to supervisor immediately.
7. Inform Agronomy Operations Manager of any new business opportunities
8. Greet customers promptly and courteously with a friendly smile and hello and thank them for their business. Work with your customers to resolve problems and report any possible misapplication problems to your supervisor.
9. Ensure customers are informed of safe product handling.
10. Actively work to increase personal knowledge and skills.
11. Maintain equipment in plant and warehouse as assigned by Agronomy Operations Manager.
12. Ensure facilities and equipment meet federal, state, and OSHA regulations. Report any unsafe working conditions to Agronomy Operations Manager.
13. Work with Strategic Account Managers at location you are assisting with agronomy services.
14. Maintain a clean and professional appearance for yourself and your equipment.
15. Complete special projects assigned by Agronomy Operations Manager.
16. Provide outstanding customer service to generate repeat business.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to smell. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

Eye protection is required in restricted areas. Appropriate personal protective equipment (i.e., goggles, gloves, long sleeve shirt, and/or face mask) required when handling chemicals.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

A high school degree or GED with 2 years of commercial driving experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Job involves work inside a climate-controlled office atmosphere and outside in hot and cold weather.
