Schwab Advisor Services supports Registered Investment Advisors and plays an important role in the continued evolution of the Industry.  Within the Strategy Exploration & Planning team, you’ll work across Advisor Services and Schwab to examine emerging industry trends, changing advisor needs, business model innovation, strategic partnerships, and long-term growth opportunities. Your work will help leaders identify where Schwab can create differentiated value, strengthen its competitive position, and focus investment on opportunities that matter most. 

As Director of Business Strategy, you’ll lead a portfolio of strategic exploration efforts and turn complex, ambiguous questions into clear perspectives and decision-ready recommendations. You’ll combine research, hypothesis development, business and competitive analysis, and stakeholder insight to assess client value, business impact, differentiation, risk, trade-offs, and organizational readiness. By building trusted relationships, facilitating thoughtful discussions, and developing executive-ready materials, you’ll challenge assumptions, build alignment, and influence choices about where Advisor Services should invest, partner, build capabilities, or monitor for future growth.

We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site 4 days a week in the specified location(s).

What you have

Required Qualifications 

• 10+ years of professional experience, including significant experience in business strategy consulting, an internal strategy group, or a strategy leadership role in financial services 
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field 
• Demonstrated ability to develop strategic perspectives and recommendations for senior executives on ambiguous, cross-functional business questions 
• Experience working across multiple business lines or functions and influencing leaders without direct authority 
• Ability to translate industry, client, competitive, and business insights into concise recommendations, clear options, and actionable decisions 
• Ability to operate autonomously, manage multiple high-priority strategic questions, and consistently deliver high-quality work 
• Strong ethical judgment and a demonstrated commitment to compliance, risk management, collaboration, integrity, and client focus 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Financial services or wealth management experience, including exposure to registered investment advisors, custody, banking, asset management, or platform economics 
• MBA or another relevant advanced degree 
• Experience identifying emerging opportunities and evaluating them through client value, business impact, competitive differentiation, and organizational readiness 
• Ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders and industry stakeholders, facilitate discussions that challenge conventional thinking, and create executive-ready materials that build alignment 

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
