TQRs:
- MSW degree or equivalent.
- At least 5 years of demonstrated practice experience in child welfare, helping children and families in situations involving violence, mental health problems, substance abuse, extreme poverty, and social exclusion.
Demonstrated practical application of, and/or teaching/research experience in, the following areas:
- Prevention and intervention models designed to mobilize families, communities, and professionals, without minimizing the serious challenges faced by children living in these difficult, and at times toxic, environments;
- The policy, practice, research, and theoretical debates that shape child welfare services;
- Tensions between social work values and ethics and child welfare policy and practice;
- Mechanisms and outcomes of the child welfare system;
- Evidenced-based analysis of policy and practice issues in child welfare;
- The historical and political context of child welfare practice in Canada, in particular with respect to First Nations communities and other marginalized populations;
- Major child maltreatment theories and research, specifically with respect to sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect and emotional maltreatment;
- Evidence base for prevention, assessment, and intervention models being used in child welfare;
- Policy initiatives affecting child welfare practice in Canada and internationally; and,
- Alternative approaches to practice that build on appropriate community and cultural resources.
