Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor of Biology

The University of North Alabama is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Biology starting in August 2027. This position requires a PhD in biology or a closely related discipline with primary specialization in cell biology or a closely related area, although ABD candidates will be considered provided degree conferral will occur before the appointment start date.  Candidates with backgrounds in areas such as parasitology, protozoan biology, or cellular and molecular biology of non-human model systems are also encouraged to apply.  For full consideration, complete application packets (cover letter, CV, statement of teaching philosophy, research statement, transcripts, and three references) must be received by October 19, 2026. The successful candidate will teach cell biology and laboratory each semester as part of the core curriculum for biology and marine biology majors, with the remaining teaching load coming from majors and non-majors introductory biology lecture and laboratories.  Standard teaching load is 12 semester hours (fall and spring; summer teaching is possible but not required).  Additional teaching responsibilities may also include human anatomy and physiology, clinical microbiology, and/or upper-level elective courses, depending on the candidate’s background. Scholarly activity including the development of an active research agenda and mentoring of undergraduate researchers, academic advising of biology majors, and other service to the department, college, and university will also be required for progress toward tenure and promotion.

This position requires an earned PhD in biology or a closely related discipline, with primary specialization in cell biology or a closely related area. Previous experience teaching at the undergraduate level and mentoring undergraduate research students is highly preferred.
