The Department of Psychology in the College of Letters & Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of clinical or counseling psychology beginning August 2027. We seek a colleague who is committed to student-centered undergraduate instruction; the active mentorship of undergraduate students within a meaningful research program; and service to the university and community. Candidates from any specialization within clinical or counseling psychology are encouraged to apply.

Job Details:

The successful candidate will be able to develop and teach clinically-oriented undergraduate courses (e.g., psychopathology, interviewing skills), introductory/general education courses, and courses in their area of specialization. The candidate will be expected to pursue an active research agenda that meaningfully engages undergraduate students and leads to scholarly dissemination. The candidate will be expected to participate in service activities and embrace principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community. We have a number of graduate assistants available to support instruction and research efforts, a supportive university Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, and start-up funding is negotiable. Early career course load reduction to support research and other academic endeavors is potentially available.

Responsibilities:

Full-time teaching responsibilities (24-credit annual teaching load) may include undergraduate courses in psychopathology, interviewing and psychotherapy techniques, and courses in the faculty member’s area of specialization, as well as an introductory course in psychology or general education. Research expectations include maintaining an active program of research in an area of clinical or counseling psychology, with a commitment to engaging undergraduate students in research in meaningful ways. In addition, faculty members serve as academic advisors/mentors to students. Additional responsibilities include service to the university as well as community and professional organizations relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest.

The Psychology Department at UW-Whitewater (https://www.uww.edu/cls/departments/psychology) offers a Bachelor's degree in psychology as well as M.S.E. and Ed.S. degrees in School Psychology through a NASP-accredited program. Faculty members in the Psychology Department have a broad range of expertise, are actively involved in scholarly and community pursuits, and share a common goal of supporting an inclusive and diverse working and learning environment. Our mission emphasizes scientific inquiry and critical thinking skills in our students. The Department boasts a variety of research spaces, a distance-education classroom, and access to technologies to support teaching and research.

Well-qualified candidates can expect a minimum starting annual salary of $60,000.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D., Psy.D., or ABD in clinical or counseling psychology. Candidates who are ABD must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2027; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2028 in advance of their first scheduled review.

  • Evidence of potential for effective teaching.

  • Evidence of potential for maintaining a program of research.
