Description
The New School was founded by forward-thinking educators in 1919 to defy the intellectual constraints of a traditional college education. We are seeking a student assistant specialist for the New School Free Press (NSFP) to fulfill two key duties: 1) to lead the archival process of the New School Free Press (NSFP), the student-run newspaper that has published continuously since 2007 and 2) to manage the newsroom space at 66 W. 12th Street. The archival process involves organizing the 50-some back issues of NSFP that are currently in the newsroom, and to implement a robust and repeatable archival process. The newsroom management role involves ensuring that the newsroom staff has the supplies and equipment necessary to function; organizing the newsroom on a weekly basis; and working with the NSFP faculty advisors to ensure the space is suitable for a student newsroom.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Collect, organize, and archive back issues of the New School Free Press
Develop a robust and repeatable archival process ahead of NSFP’s 20-year anniversary next year
Organize the newsroom on a weekly basis
Procure equipment and supplies necessary for the functioning of the newsroom, in collaboration with NSFP staff and faculty advisors
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience researching and organizing large amount of information
Experience working in newsrooms
Experience working with college publications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience archiving physical materials
Experience in a professional newsroom
An understanding of what newsrooms require to function
WORK MODE
Hybrid - Employees hired for this position primarily work remotely with the occasional on-campus presence required with advanced notice. Employees in this role will also be expected to use their best judgment to be on campus when necessary in order to best fulfill the responsibilities of their job descriptions. #LI-DNI
Hourly Rate: $21/ hour
