The Center for the Science of Social Connection in the University of Washington Psychology Department has an outstanding opportunity for a part time Research Coordinator to join their team.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to Jonathan Kanter, PhD (Research Associate Professor and Center Director), the Research Study Coordinator will join a small team that is designing and implementing a nationally representative study to understand the nature of antisemitism in the United States.  Competing definitions of antisemitism are available to the public and relevant organizations, including the IHRA definition that is favored by many mainstream Jewish organizations, pro-Israel groups, and the federal government. However, many scholars and scientists are critical of this definition for being too inclusive of legitimate anti-Israel criticism, and pro-Palestine advocates argue that the definition is being used to label free speech in opposition to Israel’s actions as antisemitic and punish it as such. The current study will scientifically investigate this issue, specifically deepening our understanding of the relationship between antisemitism and criticism of Israel.

The Research Study Coordinator will work closely with the research team to coordinate and implement all aspects of this study, including survey development, literature review, research approval and registration processes, participant recruitment, data management, and manuscript development. 

Key Responsibilities

• Literature review (20%): Review the existing scientific literature on these topics, and provide high-quality written summaries and integrations of key articles.
• Item development (10%): Participate in the development of items measuring criticism of Israel and antisemitism, including writing and editing items and sourcing items in the literature.
• Approvals and registrations (10%): Write drafts of and submit human subjects applications and open-science registrations of study protocols.
• Recruitment (30%): Outreach and recruitment to specific populations of interest for over-sampling, including pro-Palestine groups, pro-Israel groups, and groups with reputations for being antisemitic (such as white nationalist groups)
• Study administration (30%): Maintain adherence to research study protocols for data management. Work closely with YouGov (or similar) for data collection. Provide high-quality written progress summaries and reports.

Required Qualifications

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Minimum Qualifications

• Two years of college level course work in relevant academic areas AND two years of experience performing work in support of clinical, biomedical, or behavioral research studies involving human subjects.
• Applicants who do not meet these qualifications WILL NOT be forwarded to the Hiring Manager.

Additional Qualifications

• Experience in the areas of scientific study of prejudice, antisemitism, Middle East conflict
• Excellent technical and scientific writing skills.
• Experience with survey software such as Qualtrics, Redcap, or similar.  Skill with Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Interest in antisemitism, Islamophobia, human rights, conflicts involving Israel in the Middle East and the impacts in the United States.

About the Team
The Research Coordinator will join a small team led by Dr. Kanter (https://psych.uw.edu/people/5653) and including several antisemitism scholars from across the country.

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum:

$45,144.00 annual

Pay Range Maximum:

$57,252.00 annual
