At BNZ, our Platforms Domain is focused on enabling engineers through platform products that are simple to use, secure, resilient, and fit for purpose. We embrace Infrastructure as Code, automation, and cloud-native engineering practices to help teams deliver great outcomes for our customers.

The Containers Platform team builds and operates BNZ's Kubernetes platforms, enabling hundreds of engineers to build, deploy, and run applications safely and efficiently across cloud environments. We also support related container platform technologies and services that form part of BNZ's wider container ecosystem.

We sat down with the People Leader (who you would report to) and they told us the following about the role:

This role can be based in Wellington or Auckland. It is a hybrid role with three days in the office and two days where you can work flexibly.

What are some of the day to day tasks the person in this role will complete?

• Build, operate, and improve Kubernetes platforms across AWS and Azure.

• Automate platform operations, provisioning, patching, and compliance activities, helping drive engineering excellence and operational efficiency across the platform.

• Solve complex platform, reliability, and performance challenges, guiding others through problem solving and technical decision making

• Partner with engineering teams to improve platform adoption and self-service capabilities.

• Work with the team to create platform standards, documentation, and engineering guidance.

• Help drive improvements in security, reliability, automation, and developer experience while proactively identifying and managing technical risk.

• Mentor engineers through coaching, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing

What skills and experiences are required for this role?

• Kubernetes administration and operations 

• Cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure) 

• Container technologies (Docker, OCI containers) 

• Infrastructure as Code

• CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation 

• GitOps concepts and tooling (Helm, Kustomize) 

• Scripting and automation (Bash, Go, or similar)    

• Observability and monitoring platforms 

• Networking, security, and platform troubleshooting skills 

• Linux and Vmware virtualization concepts

• Experience leading complex technical initiatives and influencing engineering outcomes.

• Strong stakeholder management, communication, and collaboration skills.

• Experience mentoring and developing engineers.
