Description

We're looking for an experienced and proactive Senior Financial Crime Analyst to join our APAC Risk & Compliance team. This is a broad financial crime role that extends beyond AML/CTF, offering the opportunity to help shape and uplift financial crime framework in New Zealand and across the region. Working closely with colleagues in Australia and across APAC, you will play a key role in the prevention, detection and management of financial crime risk, while helping to drive greater consistency and standardisation of processes, controls and best practice across multiple jurisdictions.

Reporting to the Head of Risk & Compliance, APAC, you'll partner with internal stakeholders, clients and financial crime teams to ensure regulatory obligations are met in a timely and professional manner. We're seeking a seasoned financial crime professional who can hit the ground running, bring strong AML expertise, stay abreast of evolving regulatory reforms, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. This role will suit someone who enjoys operating in the grey, takes ownership, challenges the status quo, and is motivated by building, improving and embedding stronger financial crime practices. You will provide expert support for escalated financial crime matters, while building Line 1 capability and strengthening a culture of AML/CTF compliance and risk awareness across the business.

The responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the day-to-day management and continuous enhancement of New Zealand financial crime compliance programmes, with a strong focus on AML/CTF obligations.
  • Develop, implement and maintain financial crime policies, procedures and controls to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the business to strengthen and standardise financial crime frameworks, processes and controls.
  • Provide expert oversight of escalated financial crime matters, strengthening Line 1 capability and embedding a strong AML/CTF risk and compliance culture.
  • Review and investigate complex financial crime matters, including AML alerts, sanctions screening, PEP assessments and other high-risk cases
  • Conduct financial crime risk assessments and identify opportunities to enhance existing controls, improve operational effectiveness and mitigate emerging risks.
  • Support regulatory engagements, audits and reviews, including the preparation of responses to regulators, law enforcement agencies and independent assessors.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and emerging financial crime trends, ensuring changes are assessed and embedded appropriately within the business.
  • Deliver training, coaching and mentoring to colleagues and Line 1 financial crime teams to promote awareness, capability and a strong risk culture.
  • Prepare high-quality reporting and insights for senior leadership, committees and governance forums, driving informed decision-making on financial crime risk matters.

What are we ideally looking for in a successful candidate:

  • Proven experience in Financial Crime Compliance, with a strong focus on AML/CTF.
  • Background within wealth management, investment platforms, banking or broader financial services.
  • Strong working knowledge of AML/CTF regulations, DIA requirements and industry best practice.
  • Experience with KYC, CDD/EDD, sanctions screening and suspicious activity reporting.
  • Sound understanding of the New Zealand regulatory environment, including the AML/CFT Act and supporting regulations.
  • Experience developing and enhancing financial crime policies, procedures and controls.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and report writing skills.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory change and implement practical, risk-based solutions.
  • Proactive, self-driven and comfortable working in ambiguity and driving continuous improvement.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring colleagues and promoting a strong risk and compliance culture.
