Financial Controller
Job Purpose:
Our client is seeking a Financial Controller to oversee the full financial function of the organisation. The role will be responsible for managing monthly financial reporting, compiling and reviewing financial statements, ensuring accurate balance sheet reconciliations, and overseeing group financial reporting. The successful candidate will also be responsible for implementing and maintaining effective financial controls, ensuring compliance with internal financial policies and procedures, improving financial processes, and providing accurate financial insights and support to management
Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger management, and bank reconciliations.
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end reporting.
- Maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial records, including inventory, debtors, supplier balances, general ledger, cashbook, customer processing accounts, revenue, and costs.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards, including IFRS/GAAP.
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes and provide detailed variance analysis.
- Manage internal and external audits and ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations and financial legislation.
- Implement, maintain, and monitor effective internal financial controls to safeguard company assets.
- Identify and implement improvements to financial processes, systems, and reporting tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic planning and business decision-making.
- Review and approve month-end journals.
- Prepare and review accurate and reliable financial reports.
- Oversee general ledger reconciliations completed by the finance team.
- Ensure all internal and external reporting deadlines are consistently met.
- Ensure adherence to group financial controls and reporting requirements.
- Manage compliance with statutory and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Handle and respond to queries from SARS.
- Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analysis as required.
- Manage and develop the finance team to ensure group financial requirements are achieved.
- Ensure all team members have clearly defined job profiles aligned with their roles and responsibilities.
- Ensure performance contracts are in place and conduct regular performance and goal reviews.
- Provide ongoing support, training, coaching, and mentoring to finance team members.
- Ensure individual employee development plans are completed and monitored.
- Facilitate effective communication of team activities, updates, and relevant information to other departments.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of annual health and safety plans.
- Participate in relevant health and safety forums and initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
- Communicate and distribute relevant health and safety information when required.
- Liaise with internal and external auditors.
- Collaborate with other departments to support effective financial and operational processes.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
- CA(SA) qualification or BCom Honours degree with completed articles.
- Approximately 5 years’ experience in a senior accounting or financial management role.
- Proven experience managing a full financial function.
- Proven experience managing teams and leading financial operations.
- Strong computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Experience working with accounting software such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Self-motivated, resourceful, and able to work independently.
- Proven ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Ability to work successfully under pressure and consistently meet tight deadlines.
