Global chemical and environmental regulations play a vital role in every stage of a product’s lifecycle — from development and manufacturing to usage and disposal. At Roche Pharma Technical Operations, we are uniting our expertise and expanding our capabilities to ensure strong compliance with these important regulations.
 

The Opportunity

Join a dynamic, international team at the forefront of product environmental compliance. You will be working in the Roche Pharma Environmental & Chemical Regulations team. Our goal is to ensure our products comply with environmental regulations, and improve their sustainability performance. Joining our team will provide you with the experience of working in a cross-functional and international team, and will give you the opportunity to learn about pharmaceutical manufacturing and how this connects to sustainability and environmental compliance.

The scope of your work will include supporting our Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Lead in conducting LCA analyses of our pharmaceutical products, providing the product teams with valuable product sustainability insights, while contributing to increasing transparency for our customers. You will be responsible for LCA data projects aiming at increasing the quality and representativity of LCA analyses. In addition, you will be supporting the team with various tasks related to the optimization and streamlining of LCA analyses and their communication.
 

Who You are:

• Education: You are currently enrolled in or have completed a Master’s degree program at a university, preferably in Environmental Science or another Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field that includes Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in its curriculum. 

• Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Expertise: You possess both theoretical and applied knowledge of the methodology, with hands-on experience in conducting at least one study (covering data collection, modeling, and impact assessment). You are familiar with dedicated assessment software, preferably SimaPro, and the ecoinvent database. Experience with modeling chemical retrosynthesis, energy systems, or biochemical processes is a plus.  

• Mindset & Sustainability Passion: You are genuinely interested in the environmental sustainability of pharmaceutical products and motivated to perform LCA analyses, collect and model project data, and support product teams with sustainability insights.

• Data Management & Analytical Skills: You are comfortable collecting, standardizing, organizing, and communicating complex data from multiple sources in a clear, precise, and structured manner. You enjoy optimizing and streamlining analysis workflows. 

• Soft Skills & Collaboration: You are a proactive, passionate, and critical thinker with excellent communication skills. You thrive as a team player in cross-functional, international environments and possess excellent written and spoken English skills.

Additional Information:

• Please note, due to regulations, non-EU/EFTA citizens must provide a certificate from the university stating that an internship is mandatory as part of the application documents, and must be continuously enrolled in their university for the whole duration of this internship.
