POSITION SUMMARY  

The Town of Holly Springs is hiring a Sustainability Coordinator. This position will: 
•Promote energy efficient smart technologies; 
•Evaluate and assist implementing low impact service delivery methods; 
•Encourage strong environmental practices and stewardship. 

The Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for leading and coordinating the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the comprehensive Town-wide sustainability program. This position is within the Public Works Department and will work across all Town departments to promote, enhance, and coordinate sustainable and resilient Town operations including but not limited to energy efficiency, resource conservation, solid waste management, vehicle fleet, facility maintenance, community education and outreach.

Typical working hours are Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm with some after-hours and weekend work necessary for various events and projects.  This position is eligible for remote work, up to two days per week. 
 
This is a grade K position with a salary range of $70,614 - $105,921. Starting salary will be based on qualifications, education, and experience. The anticipated start date of this position is October 2026. 

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS
Work is performed under the supervision of the Public Works Facilities Manager.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.
1.Provide support for Town Council strategic initiatives related to Town sustainability and resiliency. 
2.Advise Town staff on implementing sustainable and resilient practices in operations, policies, and long-range planning. 
3.Continue to implement the Town sustainability plan.  Revise and update Town sustainability plan. 
4.Represent the Town on sustainability and environmental interests at local, regional, and state levels. 
5.Promote sustainability within the organization and the values of good stewardship and responsibility including employee education, standard procedures, and policies. 
6.Develop baseline assessments of sustainability policies, practices, curriculum, and research and provides recommendations for policy and program improvements. 
7.Conduct Return on Investment (ROI) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) analyses to assist with sustainability related investment and policy development decision-making processes.    
8.Facilitate progress on energy management initiatives including renewable technologies such as solar. 
9.Work with departments to provide technical support and staff training regarding energy efficiency and environmental impacts of work. 
10.Work with staff to develop, implement, and monitor sustainable facility guidelines for new Town facilities, making energy efficiency a priority consideration in the design of new construction and renovation projects. 
11.Develop and coordinate collaborative partnerships with government, non-profit and community groups in support of sustainability initiatives. 
12.Work with town departments to develop and track sustainability metrics. 
13.Plan and organize community events, conduct outreach to residents, schools, and businesses and develop educational programs and material. 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

?Knowledge of the developments and trends in the field including climate mitigation and adaptation strategies, energy and resource conservation, and community resiliency.
?Knowledge of sustainability metrics and key performance indicators and means of tracking.
?Knowledge of local, State and Federal laws, rules and regulations relating to recycling, solid waste management, building and energy codes.
?Knowledge of management and supervisory principles and practices including program planning, budgeting, grants, direction, coordination, and evaluation.
?Knowledge of community economics, geography, demography, community design, community organization, and other similarly related subject matter.
?Knowledge of the Town and Department’s operating requirements, policies, procedures, and practices; and local, State, and Federal regulations related to department programs and operations.
?Knowledge of principles and practices of project management principles and techniques.
?Ability to effectively utilize the principles of strategic and long and short-range planning.
?Leadership, creativity, and skill in analyzing complex technical information and issues, defining problems and evaluating alternatives and recommending methods, procedures and techniques for resolution of issues.
?Ability to research and analyze detailed information and make appropriate recommendations.
?Ability to develop department goals and objectives.
?Ability to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate projects and programs.
?Ability to develop, interpret and implement regulations, policies, procedures, written instructions, general correspondence, and other department-specific documents.
?Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures of the Town.
?Ability to establish and maintain accurate records of assigned activities and operations.
?Ability to interpret and implement local policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; Federal, State, and local regulations. 
?Skill in organizational and time management to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority.
?Ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with stringent time limits with minimal direction and supervision.
?Ability to think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt to stressful situations.
?Ability to adapt and take control of situations, dictating subordinate activities in a responsible manner.
?Ability to instruct and train in methods and procedures.

?Knowledge of computer software consistent for this position.

?Ability to work the allocated hours of the position and respond after hours as needed.

•Work has standard vision requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Conservation, Engineering, or other related degree.
•Two years of specialized experience in sustainability, resiliency, or similar field related to the sustainable operations of an organization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

•Master’s degree in public administration, public policy, business, environmental science, geographic information systems, economics, or a field that provides a concentration in sustainability, resiliency, climate science, or energy management.
•A combination of education and work experience will be considered.
•Experience in energy reduction, facility maintenance, and the implementation of “smart” technologies is highly desired.
