  • Part time - 4 days/week (Morning, Evening and Weekend shift)
  • Salary: $41.44/hr + Super + Penalty rates + NFP Salary Packaging
  • Location: Cairns QLD 4870

Your Opportunity

Join us in creating a welcoming and supportive environment where every individual's journey is valued and supported. As a Support Recovery Worker, you have the opportunity to make a profound difference by inspiring resilience and fostering personal development among our tenants.

Your daily tasks involve addressing diverse challenges associated with homelessness with compassion and understanding. You provide essential support, guidance, and access to resources that facilitate tenants' paths to stability. Through your empathetic approach, you help tenants build meaningful connections within their communities and explore enriching cultural experiences.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Build positive and non-judgemental relationships with tenants, showing respect for their feelings and needs
  • Work with tenants to engage in relevant sector agencies / programs
  • Work with tenants to build positive peer and adult relationships by assisting them to attend appointments and programs held in and out of Douglas House
  • Contribute to the effective functioning and development of the service through involvement in culturally appropriate projects, contribution to team forums, and training and development of staff
  • Complete a range of administrative duties for the efficient running of the service including; updating tenant records, reports, referral letters, goals plans etc.

Requirements for Success

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong and trusting relationships with tenants
  • Possess positive social and communication skills
  • Experience working with the Indigenous community
  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and their cultures and a general understanding of the issues that affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in contemporary Australia
  • Must hold a Working With Children Check or willingness to apply
  • Must hold a current valid Driver’s licence and First Aid Certificate

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
