Walmart is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the delivery of scalable, secure software solutions aligned with platform and business objectives. This role involves full lifecycle development, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance of services, APIs, and AI/ML components. The successful candidate will collaborate with teams to translate complex requirements into reliable, high-quality software while driving continuous improvement and innovation. Strong technical judgment, proactive problem-solving, and mentorship capabilities are essential to support engineering excellence and deliver impactful results in a dynamic environment.
About the team:
The Data Services team designs and operates scalable, available distributed SQL and NoSQL platforms supporting enterprise applications. Focused on backend engineering, API development, site reliability, and DevOps automation, the team ensures platform stability and continuous improvement. Utilizing automation and AI-assisted engineering, it drives operational excellence and innovation. Collaborating closely with product, infrastructure, and operations teams, the group upholds Walmart’s core values of integrity, respect, service, and excellence while fostering technical expertise, ownership, and alignment with business objectives.
What you'll do:
- Develop PostgreSQL extensions, plugins, and core database enhancements using the C programming language, while actively contributing to open-source initiatives and community-driven projects.
- Design and build full-stack solutions, including dashboards, REST APIs, and automation workflows, to enhance observability, operational efficiency, and incident response capabilities.
- Collaborate with Product, Business, and UX teams to define requirements, evaluate technical approaches, and deliver solutions for small- to medium-sized projects.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production database issues through root cause analysis, performance tuning, query optimization, and implementation of preventive action plans.
- Design, develop, evaluate, and deliver scalable, high-quality software solutions by adhering to engineering best practices, including code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD processes.
- Translate business and technical requirements into effective solutions, ensuring timely delivery, comprehensive documentation, and ongoing support.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams by offering guidance, architectural direction, and quality code oversight.
- Participate in capacity planning, high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) assessments, performance benchmarking, and optimization of PostgreSQL database clusters.
What you'll bring:
- Proven expertise in C programming and object-oriented software development, with a strong emphasis on code quality, maintainability, and documentation-driven development practices.
- Demonstrated experience delivering complex features, applications, or data models through collaborative engineering teams in agile environments.
- Strong proficiency in code reviews, debugging, troubleshooting, and continuous software development, with a focus on quality, performance, and reliability.
- Familiarity with AI/ML technologies and generative AI tools, with the ability to integrate intelligent capabilities into software solutions.
- Ability to design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and resilient software systems that align with enterprise architecture standards and best practices.
- Experience managing the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment automation, monitoring, and operational support.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to effectively partner with cross-functional teams, business stakeholders, and technical leaders.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, knowledge sharing, mentorship, and engineering excellence.

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 - $234,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
