Starting pay: $65,000 to $70,000 with a 4% - 5% bonus
Position Summary
The Senior Human Resources Generalist serves as a key member of the People & Culture team, providing experienced, hands-on HR support across employee relations, performance management, talent acquisition, and the employee lifecycle. This position partners with managers to recruit and retain talent, address employee concerns, manage performance issues, and provide timely, consistent, and high-quality HR support.
Reporting to the Vice President of People & Culture, the Senior HR Generalist exercises sound judgment in day-to-day HR matters and demonstrates strong follow-through, documentation skills, responsiveness, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
Essential Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Performance Management
- Serve as a primary HR resource for employees and managers regarding day-to-day employee relations and workplace concerns.
- Build trusted relationships with managers and employees and promote consistent, positive employee experiences.
- Coach managers on employee performance, attendance, workplace conduct, communication, conflict resolution, and corrective action.
- Manage progressive discipline for non-leadership employees in partnership with managers, escalating significant, complex, or high-risk matters to the Vice President of People & Culture.
- Draft and review coaching documentation, verbal and written warnings, final warnings, and Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs).
- Ensure performance documentation is factual, objective, timely, consistent, and clearly communicates expectations and required improvement.
- Facilitate corrective action meetings and monitor required follow-up, including PIP progress and performance expectations.
- Assist employees in navigating workplace concerns and connect them with appropriate resources when needed.
- Identify employee relations trends and opportunities to proactively strengthen the employee experience.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Support
- Manage full-cycle recruitment for assigned positions from requisition through onboarding.
- Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing needs, position requirements, and recruitment priorities.
- Develop sourcing strategies, screen candidates, coordinate interviews, and support candidate selection.
- Maintain timely communication with candidates and hiring managers throughout the recruitment process.
- Prepare and coordinate employment offers and pre-employment requirements, including background checks and drug screenings.
- Support onboarding activities to provide a consistent and positive transition into the organization.
- Monitor recruiting metrics, candidate pipelines, time-to-fill, and staffing trends.
- Support employer branding and other initiatives that strengthen Habitat KC's ability to attract and retain talent.
Requirements
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Five or more years of progressive Human Resources experience, including employee relations and full-cycle recruiting.
- Demonstrated experience coaching managers through employee performance concerns and corrective action.
- Strong experience developing clear, objective, and professional performance and disciplinary documentation.
- Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices.
- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through.
- Ability to independently manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee matters.
Preferred
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
- Experience supporting a multi-site or operational workforce.
- Experience with UKG or another comprehensive HRIS.
- Experience in nonprofit, construction, retail, warehouse, or other mission-driven environments.
