Job Description

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position leads the pre-award functions of the Grants Management Office (GMO). This includes working closely with Academy partners to provide professional support in the preparation and submission of funded project proposals. As a member of the customer-service-oriented GMO, the Grants & Contracts Strategist ensures applications for funding are of competitive quality, submitted timely and in compliance with funder and Academy requirements. This position will be responsible for funded project budget review and approval, preparation and submission of funded project applications, and award/contract negotiations.
This role is responsible for managing a broad range of pre-award activities. Responsibilities include preparing and submitting applications for external funding, averaging approximately 75 submissions per fiscal year, providing budget review and approval, and leading the preparation and submission of funding applications. The position also oversees Notice of Award acceptance and contract and subcontract negotiations in coordination with the AAFP Grants Management Office (GMO) Manager and the AAFP Office of General Counsel. In support of the organization’s funded projects strategy, the role maintains accurate and comprehensive records of funding opportunities, proposals, and awards, while assisting with funded project activity reporting as needed. Will support post-award activities include supporting non-competing applications, invoicing, and financial monitoring activities as needed. Additional funded project-related duties may be assigned periodically to strengthen the Academy’s ability to successfully compete for and manage external funding.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, public administration or life sciences
- Minimum of four years’ work experience in research administration, proposal development, grants administration
- Experience preparing and reviewing large, multi-year budgets.
- Experience submitting proposals to federal, foundation and commercial funders.
- Proficiency in interpreting and analyzing diverse data including financial, compliance and funded project performance data.
- Ability to communicate technical, budgetary, and program details.
- Ability to manage multiple and competing deadlines and to respond to changing priorities.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities, and see projects through to completion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in business, public administration or life sciences.
- Familiarity with federal circulars, such as 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance) and A-133 (Single Audit) compliance.
- Experience using Microsoft programs including Teams and Copilot.
- Experience with Workday Grants Administration and Financials.
