Role summary:Lead Walmart’s upstream resin strategy, building the supplier relationships, market intelligence, and commercial agreements needed to improve material cost, supply continuity, sustainability, and innovation across Private Brands and packaging. This role works at the raw-material level—connecting Walmart’s business needs with resin producers, converters, and emerging circular-material partners. The Senior Manager will lead category strategy across virgin and recycled resins, monitor commodity and capacity dynamics, and develop preferred supplier and long-term agreement opportunities. Success requires translating complex resin-market conditions into practical solutions that strengthen supply, improve economics, and support Walmart’s packaging and sustainability priorities.
About the team:
The Upstream Materials team develops strategies, supplier relationships, and commercial agreements for materials used in Walmart’s products and packaging. Operating at the raw-material level—including resin, pulp, ingredients, and metals—the team focuses on cost optimization, supply continuity, and innovation access. Collaborating with Private Brands, Merchandising, Product Development, Packaging, Supply Chain, and suppliers, the team translates market insights into practical solutions. Their work includes building preferred supplier networks, establishing long-term agreements, improving material specifications, and navigating volatile commodity markets to support Walmart and Sam’s Club business objectives.
What you'll do:
- Develop and execute multi-year material category strategies focused on resiliency, total cost of ownership, and sustainability.
- Lead competitive RFPs and negotiate long-term and preferred supplier agreements that secure capacity and mitigate commercial risk.
- Partner cross-functionally to align sourcing strategies with business priorities and deliver measurable savings.
- Analyze commodity markets, pricing trends, and spend data to inform sourcing decisions and protect supply continuity.
- Advance sustainable and responsible sourcing initiatives across material categories.
What you'll bring:
- 7+ years of strategic sourcing or procurement experience within commodity-driven material markets.
- Expertise in contract negotiation, RFP development, and long-term supplier strategy.
- Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting spend, market data, and cost drivers.
- Experience driving stakeholder alignment across cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage complex sourcing initiatives in a fast-paced, global, matrixed organization.
- Deep knowledge of resin or commodity-drive material markets
