Course: LING 371 – Syntax 1 (3 credits) section 001

Course details: Introduction to the study of generative syntax of natural languages, emphasizing basic concepts and formalism: phrase structure rules, transformations, and conditions on rules.

Contract dates: August 31, 2026 – January 5, 2027

Course start and end dates: August 31, 2026 – December 4, 2026

Course Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 8:35AM – 9:25AM

Location: TBA

Salary (current rate for 3-credit course teaching): $11,479.00

Salary (rate for 3-credit course teaching as of September 1st, 2026): $11,824.00

Position Summary:

A Course assignment includes all or part of the following teaching activities:

a) preparation of the Course and Course plan; 
b) delivery of the Course; 
c) evaluation of students; 
d) submitting to the University a report on student attendance and student grades; 
e) supervision of Teaching Assistants or any other teaching support staff; 
f) upon request, review of their students’ grades; 
g) meeting with students, being available to answer questions and give advice concerning Course content and requirements; 

Employees shall perform their duties in compliance with the Pedagogical Regulation and as specified in the administrative directives of the Hiring Unit. An Employee shall use appropriate pedagogical methods and material.
 

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):

Education: Successful completion of at least PhD Evaluation 1 or equivalent.

Experience: University Classroom teaching experience or equivalent. Documented research experience in syntax.

Other: Successful completion of graduate level coursework that covers current cross-linguistic issues in syntax and its interface with related fields, theoretical foundations in syntactic theory, basic tools of syntactic analysis, and the development of argumentation in syntactic theory.
