Position Summary:
Our client is seeking an experienced, hands-on Chief Accountant to own the full accounting, tax and statutory reporting cycle for the Group's Romanian entities. You will be the Group's reference point for Romanian accounting and tax compliance, keep us fully aligned with ANAF's digital reporting environment (RO e-Factura, SAF-T, e-TVA, e-Transport), and deliver reliable, on-time reporting to the local management and the Group CFO.
This is an individual-contributor role with high visibility: you will work closely with the Managing Director, store operations, e-commerce, logistics and external partners (auditors, payroll provider, banks, tax advisors), and you will play a key role in strengthening processes and controls as the business keeps expanding.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting and closing
- Own the monthly, quarterly and year-end closing in line with Romanian Accounting Standards (OMFP 1802/2014), including the general ledger, accruals, provisions and reconciliations.
- Prepare and file the statutory annual financial statements and half-year reporting (where required) for the Romanian entities.
- Oversee inventory accounting for a multi-store and warehouse network: stock valuation, landed cost for imports and intra-EU acquisitions, stock counts, shrinkage and slow-moving provisions.
- Manage fixed assets and store investments (fit-outs, refurbishments, depreciation) and the accounting for mall lease contracts, deposits and bank guarantees.
Tax and ANAF compliance
- Ensure full and timely compliance with the Romanian Fiscal Code and ANAF reporting obligations, including VAT returns and informative declarations (D300, D390, D394 as applicable), SAF-T (D406), corporate income tax (D101), withholding tax (D100) and other periodic filings.
- Manage RO e-Factura for B2B and B2C flows under the 2026 rules (upload within 5 working days), reconcile e-Factura and SAF-T data with the RO e-TVA pre-filled returns, and keep e-Transport declarations under control for relevant shipments.
- Apply the updated 2026 fiscal framework correctly, including the 21% standard / 11% reduced VAT rates, the 16% dividend tax, the minimum turnover tax (IMCA) where applicable, and the deductibility limits for management and service fees charged by foreign related parties.
- Coordinate transfer pricing documentation and intercompany transactions with Fais Group entities.
- Act as the main contact for ANAF, tax inspections, statutory auditors and tax advisors.
Group reporting and financial control
- Deliver the monthly reporting package to the Group CFO on the Group's deadlines, including RAS-to-IFRS/Group adjustments and intercompany reconciliations.
- Support budgeting, forecasting and management reporting (store P&L, brand margins, working capital) with accurate, timely data.
- Support the annual statutory and Group audits, preparing schedules and responding to auditor queries.
Treasury, retail and e-commerce operations
- Oversee bank reconciliations, cash and card settlements (POS, fiscal cash registers), e-commerce payment gateways and marketplace settlements.
- Supervise supplier payments, customer receivables from wholesale partners, and documentation for credit lines, bank guarantees and letters of credit.
- Design and maintain internal controls for store cash handling, returns, inventory movements and approvals.
Payroll, systems and continuous improvement
- Coordinate with the external payroll provider and review payroll accounting, D112 and benefits (meal tickets, medical insurance, bonuses).
- Get the most out of the ERP and accounting systems, and drive automation and digitalisation of recurring accounting processes.
- Monitor Romanian legislative and fiscal changes and proactively advise management on their impact.
Requirements:
Must have
- CECCAR certification (Expert Contabil or Contabil Autorizat), active and in good standing.
- University degree in Economics, Finance or Accounting.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, of which at least 2–3 years as Chief Accountant or in an equivalent role with full ownership of closing and statutory reporting.

- Fluent English (written and spoken), needed for daily reporting and communication with the Group and international brand partners.
- Availability to work on-site at our Bucharest office.
- Advanced Excel skills and hands-on experience with an ERP system.
Considered a strong plus
