Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced and results-driven GL & Reporting Accountant to join our GL team and support our accounting, statutory reporting and tax operations in Serbia. This role will have full ownership of the General Ledger, local tax compliance, statutory reporting and coordination of external audits. The successful candidate will provide expert guidance on Serbian accounting regulations and ensure compliance with all local statutory and tax requirements while driving continuous improvements within a multinational environment.
Responsibilities
- Full ownership of the General Ledger, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial data.
- Oversee compliance with Serbian direct and indirect tax regulations, including VAT, corporate income tax, withholding tax, and other local tax obligations.
- Coordinate and review statutory financial statements prepared in accordance with Serbian Accounting Law and applicable reporting standards.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities.
- Lead and oversee balance sheet reconciliations and review of trial balances and profit and loss accounts.
- Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors, tax authorities, and other regulatory institutions.
- Support transfer pricing compliance and coordinate preparation of transfer pricing documentation.
- Work closely with regional and global Finance teams to ensure alignment between local statutory requirements and group reporting.
- Prepare and deliver ad hoc financial analysis and reports to management.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, standardisation, and automation within accounting and tax processes.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls, company policies, and compliance requirements.
- Support internal and external audits and implement audit recommendations where required.
- Comply with internal policies, procedures, and health & safety regulations.
Qualifications
Professional Qualifications
- University degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Certified Accountant qualification preferred (e.g., Association of Accountants and Auditors of Serbia, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of Serbian Accounting Law, Serbian tax legislation, and IFRS.
Experience
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a senior accounting or Chief Accountant role.
- Experience within a multinational company or shared services environment is highly desirable.
- Proven track record in General Ledger management, statutory reporting, tax compliance, audits, and financial controls.
- Experience dealing with Serbian tax authorities, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Serbian accounting, tax, and statutory reporting requirements.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Fluent in Serbian and English, both written and spoken.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with ERP systems (ABSOFT, SAP or similar) preferred.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and drive improvements.
- Strong focus on compliance, governance, control, and transparency.
- Effective people management and leadership capabilities.
