Summary
The Sales Manager is responsible for driving revenue, managing state-level sales strategy, and developing a high-performing Sales team within a single market. This role owns execution across all retail accounts, including direct management of key accounts and strategic partnerships.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Own overall sales performance and execution within the state, including revenue growth, market share, and profitability
- Develop and lead strategic plans that align with company objectives and adapt to evolving market conditions
- Drive consistent execution of sales strategies, ensuring strong distribution, in-store presence, and customer experience
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing sales team, fostering a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement
- Establish clear expectations, performance standards, and development plans across the team
- Maintain a strong field presence to stay connected to team execution and market dynamics (60-80% of time in market)
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with key accounts, partners, and stakeholders within the market
- Oversee account strategy and execution to support long-term growth and brand positioning
- Serve as a senior point of contact for critical customer needs and opportunities
- Partner with internal teams including Distribution, Operations, Finance, and Marketing to ensure alignment and execution excellence
- Support effective planning, forecasting, and resource allocation to drive effective execution
- Ensure adherence to company standards, processes, and regulatory requirements
- Leverage data and market insights to inform decisions, identify opportunities, and communicate performance to leadership
- Identify opportunities, risks, and market trends, and translate them into actionable strategies
- Take on additional leadership responsibilities and strategic initiatives as the business evolves
Qualifications
- 7+ years of direct sales, sales operations, or related field. CPG and wholesaler.
- Progressive sales experience or multi‑state or regional leadership preferred.
- Strong understanding of B2B sales, distributor models, and regulated markets (cannabis or CPG strongly preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to develop talent, improve execution, and drive results across diverse markets
- Strong analytical, communication, and decision-making skills
- Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, evolving organization with significant travel
- Must have experience working with a high sense of urgency in a team environment or independently
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively lead peers and communicate across teams.
- Ability to work with a strong sense of urgency while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
- Familiarity with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and work management systems such as Slack, Jira, or similar platforms.
- Ability to travel occasionally between Company buildings or work sites, as needed.
- Must be at least 21 years of age, as required by applicable state regulations.
- Must successfully complete a pre-employment background check, where permitted by law.
- Must obtain and maintain all licenses, permits, certifications, or registrations required by applicable federal, state, provincial, or local laws and regulations.
- ServSafe Certification or Food Handler's Card is preferred, where applicable.
- Compliance with all company safety, sanitation, quality, and food safety policies is required at all times.
