Senior SAP S/4HANA Functional Lead – Acquire-to-Retire (A2R) / Enterprise Asset Management (PMW220)

 

Bowhead is seeking a Senior SAP S/4HANA Functional Lead – Acquire-to-Retire (A2R) / Enterprise Asset Management to provide consultative support to the Navy ERP Program Office in Washington, D.C.. The selected candidate will serve as the Government's senior functional advisor for the Acquire-to-Retire workstream supporting ERP+ modernization and implementation of SAP S/4HANA. This position can be remote.

This is a senior advisory role—not a configuration or transactional support position. The successful candidate will operate at the intersection of functional architecture, asset and property management, financial integration, enterprise integration, governance, and business transformation while advising Government leadership throughout the ERP+ modernization lifecycle.

As ERP+ transitions from requirements definition and Fit-to-Standard into System Integrator (SI)-led configuration and implementation, this position will increasingly perform Government-side solution oversight and Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V). The selected candidate will review proposed configurations, functional designs, process flows, supporting evidence, integrations, and implementation deliverables to ensure alignment with Government-approved requirements, SAP leading practices, enterprise architecture, auditability, and long-term sustainment.

The A2R functional role requires deep, proven integration expertise in Procure-to-Pay (P2P), Project Systems (PS), and Controlling (CO) as they drive asset acquisition, capital project settlement, and cost accountability across the asset lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic functional leadership throughout the ERP+ modernization lifecycle for the Acquire-to-Retire workstream.
• Lead and support A2R Fit-to-Standard, Fit/Gap, requirements refinement, configuration validation, and solution design activities.
• Support decomposition of L2, L3, and L4 business capabilities into implementable SAP S/4HANA solution concepts.
• Advise Navy stakeholders on end-to-end asset lifecycle processes including asset acquisition and capitalization, asset master data, asset classes, equipment and functional locations, maintenance, work management, asset transfers, retirement, disposal, and financial settlement.
• Provide functional expertise supporting General Equipment, Enterprise Asset Management, Asset Accounting, Government Property, Real Property, Internal Use Software, lease management, and asset accountability requirements.
• Evaluate integration between A2R and Financial Accounting, General Ledger, Funds Management, Project Systems, Procure-to-Pay, Controlling, Plan-to-Stock, master data, reporting, analytics, and external Navy and DoD systems.
• Assess how P2P, PS, and CO drive asset capitalization and cost flow, including asset-assigned purchase orders, WBS and investment order settlement to Assets Under Construction (AuC) and final assets, and depreciation and maintenance cost postings to cost centers.
• Evaluate asset and property-accountability requirements involving APSR and related Navy/DoD systems and processes, including the relationship between physical asset accountability and financial asset records.
• Support asset maintenance processes including equipment and functional locations, notifications, maintenance/work orders, task lists, maintenance planning, spare parts, reservations, goods issue/receipt, cost collection, and work-order settlement.
• Support Navy requirements associated with asset creation, capitalization, transfers, depreciation, retirement, disposal/disposition, and related financial impacts.
• Support requirements and solution analysis associated with lease management, Real Property, Internal Use Software, Government-Furnished Property, and applicable Federal and DoD accounting and asset-management requirements.
• Recommend solutions that maximize standard SAP S/4HANA capabilities, minimize unnecessary customization, and support Clean Core principles.
• Lead discussions with Navy stakeholders across multiple commands, functional communities, and ERP+ workstreams.
• Develop high-quality analytical products, Courses of Action (COAs), configuration assessments, governance artifacts, executive briefings, decision papers, and written recommendations that clearly articulate alternatives, impacts, risks, and recommended actions for Government decision-makers.
• Support release planning, testing strategy, production readiness, deployment planning, Government acceptance, and post-go-live stabilization.
• Ensure testing strategy includes end-to-end integration scenarios spanning P2P, PS, CO, and Asset Accounting.

Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V) / Solution Oversight:

• Serve as the Government's independent A2R functional advisor during SI-led design, configuration, testing, and implementation.
• Independently review and assess SAP S/4HANA A2R configurations, configuration workbooks, functional designs, process flows, demonstrations, and supporting system evidence for alignment with approved Navy requirements.
• Validate that proposed configurations and solution designs satisfy approved L2/L3/L4 capabilities and intended business outcomes.
• Evaluate whether configuration values and design decisions are adequately supported by system evidence and traceable to approved requirements.
• Identify configuration discrepancies, unsupported assumptions, functional gaps, design risks, incomplete requirements, integration issues, and unnecessary customization.
• Assess proposed solutions from an end-to-end A2R perspective, including impacts to physical and financial asset accountability, maintenance, procurement, inventory, financial postings, budget execution, master data, interfaces, reporting, cybersecurity, audit readiness, and sustainment.
• Evaluate whether proposed customizations are necessary or whether requirements can be satisfied through standard SAP capabilities.
• Assess SI recommendations and deliverables objectively and provide clear, evidence-based findings and recommendations to Government leadership.
• Identify configuration or design decisions that require resolution before build, testing, deployment, or Government acceptance proceeds.
• Support design reviews, architecture reviews, demonstrations, milestone decision events, governance boards, and Government acceptance activities.
• Verify that integration designs owned by the P2P, PS, and CO workstreams support A2R outcomes, including account assignment categories, investment and settlement profiles, settlement rules, and cost object structures.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Ten (10+) or more years supporting SAP asset management, financial asset management, enterprise asset management, plant maintenance, Government property, or related asset lifecycle business processes.
• Five(5+) or more years supporting SAP S/4HANA implementations or modernization initiatives.
• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Logistics, Business, or related discipline (Master's preferred).
• Demonstrated expertise in SAP Acquire-to-Retire capabilities, including Asset Accounting (FI-AA), Enterprise Asset Management/Plant Maintenance (EAM/PM), asset master data, asset classes, equipment/functional locations, maintenance/work management, asset acquisition, capitalization, transfer, retirement, and disposal.
• Demonstrated understanding of the integration between physical asset management and financial asset accounting.
• Proven experience integrating A2R with Procure-to-Pay (P2P), Project Systems (PS), and Controlling (CO), as well as Finance, Funds Management, Plan-to-Stock, master data, reporting, and analytics.
• Experience evaluating SAP functional designs, configuration decisions, or implementation deliverables and identifying functional or integration impacts.
• Experience conducting Fit-to-Standard/Fit-Gap analysis and translating business requirements into SAP solution concepts.
• Demonstrated ability to develop high-quality written analysis, recommendations, decision support products, and executive-level briefings.
• Experience facilitating complex functional discussions and communicating SAP solution issues to senior business and Government stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting Navy ERP, ERP+, or other DoD ERP modernization efforts.
• Experience supporting Government oversight, IV&V, or independent assessment of SAP implementations performed by a System Integrator.
• Experience with SAP S/4HANA Enterprise Asset Management, Asset Accounting, and/or PMMO/EPPM.
• Experience with Government Property, APSR, DPAS, or other DoD property-accountability environments.
• Experience with SAP RE-FX or Federal lease-management processes.
• Knowledge of Federal and DoD financial-management, property-accountability, audit, and asset-management requirements.
• Experience with Real Property, General Equipment, Internal Use Software, Government-Furnished Property, or similar Federal asset categories.
• Experience with SAP Defense & Security (D&S) or DFPS.
• Experience evaluating standard SAP functionality against legacy customizations and supporting Clean Core modernization.
• Experience with SAP data migration, master data, reporting, analytics, and interface integration as they relate to the asset lifecycle.
• Experience with capital project cost planning, AuC settlement, and cost allocation across PS, CO, Funds Management, and Asset Accounting in a Federal or DoD environment.

• Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance.
• Ability to trace an asset from procurement and project cost through controlling and asset accounting records to confirm financial and physical accountability.

Targeted salary range is $250,000 annually based on qualifications and experience.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
