SUMMARY

The HR Project Manager provides disciplined project management across a high-volume portfolio of Human Resources initiatives. Ensures HR projects are effectively planned, organized, resourced, tracked, communicated, and delivered in alignment with established objectives, timelines, and priorities. Serves as a central point of coordination for projects spanning HR technology, compliance, Total Rewards, talent, employee experience, culture, HR operations, and other strategic HR initiatives. Projects may range from focused functional initiatives to complex, cross-functional efforts involving multiple departments, systems, vendors, and stakeholders.

Creates the structure, accountability, visibility, and coordination necessary for project teams and subject matter experts to successfully deliver their work, acting as a true project manager role. Demonstrates project management that can thrive in a fast-paced environment, simultaneously managing multiple complex initiatives, and is highly effective at coordinating stakeholders across functions and levels of the organization. Previous experience supporting Human Resources projects is strongly preferred.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to pass a background investigation.

Demonstrated experience simultaneously managing multiple projects with competing priorities, resources, and stakeholders.

Experience managing projects involving multiple functional areas and levels of leadership.

Strong knowledge of formal project management methodologies, tools, and practices.

Demonstrated experience developing project plans, managing risks and dependencies, coordinating resources, and providing leadership-level project reporting.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

HR Project Portfolio Management

Manages a high-volume portfolio of concurrent HR projects across multiple functional areas.

Maintains a consolidated view of HR projects, providing visibility into project status, milestones, resources, risks, dependencies, and upcoming decisions.

Establishes and applies consistent project management standards, tools, templates, and governance across HR initiatives.

Supports project intake and prioritization by providing visibility into resource requirements, dependencies, timing, and capacity.

Identifies competing priorities and resource constraints and escalate concerns to HR leadership for resolution.

Maintains portfolio-level reporting to provide HR leadership with clear visibility into overall project health and progress.

Project Planning & Management

Manages projects through the full project lifecycle, from initiation and planning through execution, implementation, and closeout.

Develops comprehensive project plans defining scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, milestones, resources, dependencies, and responsibilities.

Establishes clear roles and accountability across project teams.

Coordinates activities across HR, IT, Finance, Legal, Operations, Communications, external consultants, vendors, and other stakeholders as appropriate.

Facilitates project meetings, working sessions, status reviews, and decision-making discussions.

Follows up on commitments and drives accountability for assigned actions and deliverables.

Maintains project documentation, decision logs, action items, and other project records.

Provides hands-on project support when appropriate while maintaining accountability with functional subject matter experts for functional decisions and deliverables.

Cross-Functional & Technology-Enabled Projects

Provides project management support for HR initiatives involving technology, process, policy, compliance, Total Rewards, talent, employee experience, and other functional areas.

Manages HR workstreams associated with system enhancements, implementations, integrations, and optimization efforts, including initiatives involving Workday and other enterprise technologies.

Coordinates project activities such as requirements gathering, testing, user acceptance testing, communications, training readiness, implementation planning, and post-launch activities as appropriate.

Partners with HR functional leaders, HR Operations, HRIS, IT, and other stakeholders to ensure roles, responsibilities, timelines, and dependencies are clearly established.

Coordinates HR project activities within broader enterprise technology initiatives while maintaining alignment with established IT project governance and methodologies.

Ensures HR business requirements, decisions, dependencies, and deliverables are appropriately represented and tracked within cross-functional projects.

Resource & Dependency Management

Identifies project resource requirements and coordinates resource commitments across HR and cross-functional teams.

Maintains visibility into resource capacity and competing demands across the HR project portfolio.

Identifies resource conflicts, competing priorities, and cross-project dependencies before they impact delivery.

Partners with HR leadership to escalate resource constraints and sequencing challenges.

Coordinates external consultants and vendors against established project plans and deliverables.

Risk, Issue & Change Management

Identifies, documents, monitors, and communicates project risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies.

Develops mitigation plans in partnership with project owners and subject matter experts.

Establishes clear escalation protocols and proactively elevate risks requiring leadership decisions.

Manages changes to project scope, schedule, resources, and deliverables through appropriate project governance.

Ensures key decisions are documented and communicated to impacted stakeholders.

Stakeholder Management & Communication

Builds effective working relationships across Human Resources and with cross-functional business partners.

Develops project communication plans appropriate to the size, complexity, and audience of each initiative.

Translates detailed project information into clear, concise updates for HR and senior leadership.

Facilitates cross-functional collaboration and maintains alignment among stakeholders with different priorities and responsibilities.

Influences without direct authority to maintain momentum and accountability.

Project Reporting & Governance

Develops and maintains project dashboards, status reports, portfolio summaries, and leadership updates.

Establishes project health indicators and consistently monitors schedule, scope, resources, risks, and deliverables.

Facilitates project governance meetings and leadership reviews.

Provides transparent reporting on projects that are on track, at risk, or require leadership intervention.

Tracks project outcomes and conducts project closeouts and lessons-learned reviews to continuously improve project delivery.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three or more (3+) years of progressive project management experience managing complex, cross-functional initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification strongly preferred.

Previous experience working within Human Resources or managing Human Resources projects strongly preferred.

Experience managing projects involving Workday or other enterprise HR technologies preferred.

Experience managing projects in a government contracting, highly regulated, or complex matrixed environment preferred.

Experience coordinating external consultants, technology partners, and vendors.

Experience supporting enterprise-wide implementations and organizational change initiatives.

The estimated pay range for this role is $77k to $100k, with the final offer contingent on location, skillset, and experience.
