The City of Fairfield is seeking a customer-focused land development engineer who enjoys working directly with developers, architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners to facilitate high-quality projects that contribute to the community’s continued growth and success. This position offers an opportunity to play a visible and influential role in shaping Fairfield’s built environment while helping applicants successfully navigate the development process.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Estimated Total Compensation:
Associate Civil Engineer - $162,870 - $191,292* | Base Salary - $114,912 - $139,669
Senior Civil Engineer - $176,563 - $207,938* | Base Salary - $126,840 - $154,168
*Estimated total compensation includes base salary and the annualized value of employer-paid benefits and contributions, such as deferred compensation, medical/dental/vision insurance, retiree health contributions, and other applicable benefits. Actual compensation and benefit values may vary based on individual benefit elections, coverage levels, and length of service.
- 401(a) Deferred Compensation: City contributes 10% of salary; employee contributes a minimum of 4%
- 457 Deferred Compensation: Optional employee-funded plan with pre-tax and/or Roth contribution options
- Personal Leave: 100 hours annually (accrues at 3.85 hours/pay period)
- Vacation: 10–20 days annually based on years of City service
- CalPERS pension eligibility
- City-paid life insurance and generous contributions to retirement health savings accounts
- Tuition Reimbursement up to $4,000 annually
- A 9/80 work schedule
The posted salary range spans the Associate Civil and Senior Civil Engineer series. Please refer to the specific job descriptions for the individual salary ranges, examples of duties, and knowledge and abilities.

Education: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering. Experience: For the Associate Civil Engineer level, two years of experience equivalent to Assistant Civil Engineer with the City of Fairfield or three years of professional civil engineering experience. For the Senior Civil Engineer level, five years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience, including two years equivalent to Associate Engineer with the City of Fairfield. Licensure: Candidates must hold registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California. The City may consider applicants licensed in another state; however, the selected individual will be hired, and remain, in a lower classification until obtaining a California Professional Engineer license.
