Description
Make your mark in a business where your expertise genuinely matters.
At Heartland Group, we're doing banking differently. We're focused on creating better outcomes for New Zealanders through innovative financial solutions, and we're looking for a Tax Specialist to join our high-performing team working across New Zealand and Australia.
This is an opportunity to drive tax compliance activities across a growing and dynamic Trans-Tasman organisation whilst partnering with stakeholders and colleagues throughout the business.
Does this sound like you?
As our Tax Specialist, you'll be the first port of call for the Group’s tax compliance and reporting obligations in New Zealand and Australia, based in our Auckland head office. Working closely with the Group tax manager, you’ll be comfortable with preparing tax returns and tax accounting, solving problems and providing great service to your stakeholders in a deadline driven environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing income tax, GST, FBT, withholding tax and other tax filings and payment recommendations
- Supporting the Group’s direct, indirect tax compliance and other tax reporting obligations
- Preparing and supporting tax effect accounting and financial reporting requirements
- Business partnering and support in respect of tax issues
- Identifying opportunities to improve tax processes, controls, and administration
- Ad hoc research and business advisory assignments
What you'll bring
We're looking for a technically strong tax professional who combines expertise with a practical, solutions-focused approach.
You're a tax professional with:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or Taxation
- CA, CPA, or equivalent professional qualification
- Significant experience in New Zealand taxation within a corporate environment, financial services organisation, or professional services firm. Exposure to Australian taxation would be an advantage, but is not essential
- Strong knowledge of NZ tax legislation and compliance requirements
- Excellent analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across multiple teams
