Senior Vice President of Operations – Telecom Infrastructure & Construction

Location: Charlotte/Gastonia, North Carolina
Salary: $225,000–$250,000 annually, plus performance-based bonus
Reports To: Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Schedule: Full-Time, Executive Leadership
Travel: Regular regional and multi-state travel required

Executive Opportunity

A growing telecommunications and infrastructure services organization is seeking a hands-on Senior Vice President of Operations to lead companywide operations, project execution, financial performance, and field delivery.

This executive will have direct responsibility for P&L performance, revenue growth, gross margin, EBITDA, cash flow, workforce productivity, project delivery, safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. The SVP of Operations will translate executive strategy into disciplined operating plans that deliver projects safely, profitably, and on schedule.

The organization supports infrastructure projects involving wireless communications, tower construction and modifications, fiber construction, critical power, raw-land development, electrical construction, utilities, and mission-critical infrastructure.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished telecom or infrastructure operations executive who wants to play a central role in scaling a growing organization. This is not an office-only position. The successful candidate will maintain an active presence with field teams, operating leaders, and customers throughout the company’s multi-state footprint.

What You’ll Lead

Operational and Financial Performance

  • Lead daily operations across multiple business units, markets, customers, projects, and operating locations.
  • Own revenue, gross margin, EBITDA, cash flow, and operational performance objectives.
  • Translate corporate strategy into clear operating plans, priorities, performance metrics, and measurable results.
  • Establish a consistent operating cadence covering backlog, revenue conversion, project margins, staffing, billing, collections, customer commitments, and operational risks.
  • Improve the accuracy and predictability of revenue, margin, resource, and cash-flow forecasts.
  • Identify performance gaps early and lead corrective actions through completion.
  • Develop scalable processes and operating systems that support profitable growth.

Telecom Construction and Project Execution

  • Oversee the complete project lifecycle, including estimating, scoping, staffing, scheduling, construction, documentation, closeout, and billing.
  • Convert project backlog into profitable revenue while protecting customer relationships and project margins.
  • Monitor project status, job costs, labor productivity, subcontractor performance, estimated cost to complete, margin at completion, and execution risks.
  • Lead recovery plans for underperforming projects and customer programs.
  • Ensure change orders, additional work authorizations, and customer approvals are properly documented and billed promptly.
  • Establish consistent project management and field execution standards.
  • Strengthen coordination among estimating, project management, construction management, field operations, finance, purchasing, and billing.

Workforce and Capacity Planning

  • Align labor, field crews, subcontractors, equipment, and leadership capacity with backlog and anticipated project awards.
  • Deploy resources effectively across customers, projects, and geographic markets.
  • Improve labor productivity, workforce utilization, project scheduling, and field efficiency.
  • Establish consistent processes for subcontractor selection, onboarding, utilization, performance management, and capacity planning.
  • Anticipate staffing and resource constraints before they affect customer commitments or financial performance.
  • Build the operational infrastructure needed to support new markets, service lines, and acquisitions.

Customer and Account Leadership

  • Develop and maintain executive-level relationships with key customers.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for project delivery, operational, and customer-service issues.
  • Ensure customer expectations are consistently met for safety, quality, scheduling, documentation, responsiveness, and communication.
  • Partner with executive leadership and business development to expand existing accounts and launch new customer programs.
  • Lead customer performance reviews, business reviews, and strategic account-planning meetings.
  • Build strong institutional customer relationships across multiple levels of the organization.

Team Leadership and Accountability

  • Lead, coach, and develop project managers, construction managers, field leaders, and operations personnel.
  • Establish clear roles, decision-making authority, performance expectations, and accountability.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing operational leaders.
  • Address performance concerns directly and promptly.
  • Build a culture centered on safety, urgency, accountability, transparency, teamwork, and customer service.
  • Develop succession plans and strengthen leadership depth throughout the organization.

Safety, Quality, and Compliance

  • Champion a safety-first culture across all field and operational activities.
  • Partner with Environmental, Health, and Safety leadership to ensure compliance with OSHA, customer, company, and industry requirements.
  • Hold leaders accountable for safety training, documentation, incident prevention, investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain high standards for workmanship, quality control, regulatory compliance, and customer acceptance.
  • Incorporate safety and quality performance into operating reviews and leadership evaluations.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of progressive operations leadership experience within telecommunications, wireless infrastructure, tower construction, fiber, critical power, electrical construction, utility services, data centers, specialty contracting, or a similar field-services organization.
  • Executive-level responsibility for a significant P&L in a project-based construction or infrastructure services business.
  • Experience leading project managers, construction managers, field crews, and subcontractors across multiple projects, customers, or geographic markets.
  • Strong understanding of backlog management, work in progress (WIP), job costing, project margins, labor productivity, change orders, billing, collections, and working capital.
  • Proven record of improving operational and financial performance through process improvement, performance management, and organizational accountability.
  • Senior-level customer relationship experience with wireless carriers, tower companies, utilities, original equipment manufacturers, enterprise customers, or infrastructure providers.
  • Demonstrated success recruiting, developing, and retaining high-performing leadership teams.
  • Strong financial, analytical, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead effectively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and growth-oriented environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly across a multi-state operating footprint.

Highly Preferred Experience

  • Direct operational leadership within telecom or wireless infrastructure construction.
  • Leadership of major wireless carrier programs involving Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, or similar customers.
  • Wireless new-site builds, small cells, distributed antenna systems, and tower modifications.
  • Tower-owner programs and raw-land development.
  • Fiber outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) construction.
  • DC power systems, generators, batteries, rectifiers, and critical-power infrastructure.
  • Data center or mission-critical infrastructure projects.
  • Electrical or utility construction.
  • Multi-state field operations.
  • Privately held or private-equity-backed infrastructure services organizations.
  • Acquisition integration and new service-line development.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, construction management, engineering, operations, finance, or a related field.
  • Significant executive operations experience may be considered in place of a degree.

What Success Looks Like

The successful SVP of Operations will combine field credibility, financial discipline, customer leadership, and a high degree of personal accountability.

During the first 12 months, the Senior Vice President of Operations will be expected to deliver measurable improvement in:

  • Backlog conversion and profitable revenue growth.
  • Project-level and companywide gross margins.
  • EBITDA and operating cash flow.
  • Labor productivity and subcontractor utilization.
  • Revenue, margin, and resource forecast accuracy.
  • Project scheduling and workforce planning.
  • Project closeout and billing velocity.
  • Aged WIP, unbilled revenue, and accounts receivable.
  • Customer satisfaction, retention, and account expansion.
  • Leadership accountability and succession depth.
  • Safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Reduction in customer escalations and operational surprises.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $225,000–$250,000 annually, plus a performance-based bonus and executive benefits. Final compensation will be based on the candidate’s telecom industry experience, P&L leadership, operational scope, customer relationships, and demonstrated results.

If you are an accomplished telecom infrastructure executive who combines field credibility, financial discipline, customer leadership, and a passion for building high-performing teams, we invite you to apply.
