Description

The Treasury & Portfolio Services (TPS) team is a specialized oversight and advisory function within Fund Administration that supports a diverse range of investment products through technical accounting expertise, operational governance, custody oversight, and analytical problem solving. The team serves as a critical partner to the business, helping navigate complex accounting matters, fund launches, mergers and reorganizations, operational challenges, regulatory requirements, and strategic initiatives.

TPS provides accounting, custody, and operational oversight across multiple fund platforms and product lines. Responsibilities include oversight of fund accounting and NAV production, fund distributions, custody activities, cash management, fund events, technical accounting matters, accounting policy development, and resolution of complex accounting and operational issues.

The TPS Senior Analyst is responsible for performing accounting analysis, executing operational oversight activities, and contributing to the successful execution of strategic business initiatives. This role serves as a key first-level reviewer within the TPS oversight framework and is responsible for independently performing oversight reviews and monitoring activities across various fund administration functions.

The role requires intellectual curiosity, a highly analytical mindset, and the ability to apply sound judgment when evaluating accounting, custody, and operational matters. Successful candidates will be hands-on contributors responsible for researching accounting issues, performing analytical reviews, investigating operational matters, and assisting in developing recommendations for management. The Senior Analyst is expected to identify issues, assess risks, formulate recommendations, and escalate significant matters to TPS management when appropriate.

This position is intended for early- to mid-career professionals seeking to expand their expertise beyond traditional fund accounting responsibilities through hands-on analytical work, first-level oversight reviews, and direct involvement in complex accounting and operational matters. The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time performing analysis, conducting oversight reviews, investigating issues, and developing recommendations while partnering closely with TPS Managers and other senior team members.

This position offers significant opportunity for professional growth and development. The successful candidate will build broad expertise across Treasury & Portfolio Services through direct involvement in technical accounting matters, fund events, operational oversight activities, business initiatives, and service provider governance. The role is designed for individuals who aspire to broaden their business impact, develop subject matter expertise, and prepare for future leadership opportunities within Fund Administration.

While operational oversight remains an important component of the role, TPS operates well beyond traditional operations. The successful candidate will apply analytical thinking, technical accounting expertise, and industry knowledge to support strategic initiatives, evaluate complex transactions, resolve accounting and operational issues, and support critical service provider oversight activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

Technical Accounting, Custody Oversight & Analytical Review

  • Perform daily oversight and review of fund accounting activities related to the calculation of Fund NAVs, including analysis of portfolio transactions, corporate actions, accruals, expense allocations, and capital activity.
  • Monitor, investigate, and explain material NAV movements, accounting exceptions, and variances to ensure accuracy and completeness of the Funds' books and records.
  • Analyze significant NAV fluctuations, accounting exceptions, fund distributions, and unusual portfolio activity to identify underlying drivers and operational impacts.
  • Analyze complex securities and investment structures, including derivatives, structured products, private investments, leverage arrangements, and other non-standard investments to ensure appropriate accounting treatment, valuation, and income recognition.
  • Research technical accounting matters and evaluate the application of U.S. GAAP, regulatory requirements, and internal accounting policies.
  • Review and assess accounting treatment for transactions and investment activity to ensure compliance with accounting policies, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
  • Participate in investigations related to NAV errors, accounting discrepancies, and operational incidents, including root-cause analysis, remediation planning, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Prepare analyses, presentations, and supporting materials for management, governance committees, and strategic initiative

Oversight & Governance

  • Perform first-level oversight reviews of fund accounting, custody, fund distribution, and operational activities across multiple fund platforms, identifying exceptions, risks, and matters requiring management attention.
  • Review daily, weekly, monthly, and event-driven deliverables prepared by service providers and perform detailed analysis of exceptions, breaks, unusual activity, and control-related matters.
  • Review reconciliations prepared by service providers, including cash, position, derivative, income, expense, and capital activity reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of outstanding items.
  • Support oversight of key service providers, including custodian banks, transfer agents, line of credit providers, administrators, and other service providers.
  • Assist in monitoring operational risks and support initiatives designed to strengthen controls and enhance service delivery.

Fund Events, Cash Management & Strategic Initiatives

  • Support fund launches, mergers, reorganizations, liquidations, conversions, and other significant fund events.
  • Assist with the onboarding of new investment products and support related accounting, operational, governance, and reporting requirements.
  • Assist in the calculation, analysis, and execution of Fund distributions, including distribution rate analysis and preparation of materials supporting Dividend Committee reviews.
  • Participate in Fund liquidity and cash management activities, including overdraft monitoring, line of credit utilization, and interfund lending.
  • Contribute to initiatives that improve scalability, enhance controls, reduce operational risk, and strengthen the overall operating model.

Professional Development

  • Serve as a primary analyst responsible for assigned oversight reviews, analyses, and projects while partnering closely with TPS Managers and Supervisors to identify issues, develop recommendations, and support decision making.
  • Prepare materials and analysis for senior management, Board reporting, governance committees, and strategic initiatives.
  • Contribute to the support of various committees, including the Complex Securities Committee, Dividend Committee, and Risk & Investment Operations Committee.
  • Demonstrate leadership potential through initiative, collaboration, analytical problem solving, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Continuously expand business, accounting, and operational expertise to prepare for increasing levels of responsibility.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience within fund accounting, custody, fund administration, audit, asset management, or related financial services functions.
  • An understanding of U.S. GAAP, investment company accounting, and fund operations principles.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to independently analyze complex issues and develop practical recommendations.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong business writing and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel, and an ability to leverage technology to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and a strong desire to expand technical accounting, investment management, and fund administration knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting mutual funds, ETFs, interval funds, closed-end funds, alternative investments, or related investment products.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Alteryx, workflow automation tools, or other data analytics platforms.
  • Planned pursuit of further education opportunities such as MBA or CPA pathways.

Decision Authorities:

  • The TPS Senior Analyst is expected to follow procedures and policies when performing assigned tasks.  He/she is expected to research and escalate any issues identified during the course of his/her work.
