Reporting to the General Manager Health, Safety, Environment and Heritage, this is a senior leadership opportunity to shape health and safety performance across APA’s growing Infrastructure Delivery and Energy Solutions portfolios. You will influence major project delivery, strengthen contractor safety governance and partner with senior leaders to ensure health and safety is embedded in key business and investment decisions.
As a senior member of the Health, Safety, Environment and Heritage leadership team, you will play a key role in governing contractor health and safety across the broader business, with a strong focus on supporting the safe delivery of major projects. The role can be based in Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne and will involve interstate travel to project sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and support a team of HSEH Business Partners, building capability and partnering with the business to strengthen Health and Safety performance and drive continuous improvement.
- Oversee contractor Health and Safety governance across the project lifecycle, from prequalification and selection through to worker management, assurance and offboarding.
- Partner with senior and executive leaders, providing practical advice, coaching and an on-site presence to support WHS due diligence and effective management of Health and Safety risks.
- Drive the implementation and continuous improvement of our HSEH Strategy and Management System, helping ensure our approach continues to evolve with the needs of the business.
- Provide strong oversight of assurance, investigations and reporting, ensuring lessons are shared, risks are effectively managed and high standards are maintained across the business.
Your background
- You will bring significant Health and Safety experience within major construction or project delivery environments, ideally gained within a Tier 1 contractor or similarly complex construction environment.
- You will have a strong understanding of relevant Health and Safety legislation and regulatory requirements, with experience interpreting legislation and applying it practically across projects and contractor environments.
- You will bring experience working with major contractors, delivery partners and senior project stakeholders, with client-side experience or an understanding of both the contractor and client perspective highly regarded.
- You will have the confidence and credibility to build strong relationships while holding people accountable, providing clear advice, constructively challenging where needed and being comfortable having difficult conversations.
- You will bring strong leadership experience with the ability to lead and develop a team, take the lead on complex HSEH matters and strengthen assurance, systems and ways of working across a growing project portfolio.
