Description
OVERVIEW OF COMMITMENT AS A SUPERVISOR
The assignment should support the overall strategic priorities of the Graduate School and/or College. Graduate Assistantships work to support the overall strategic priorities and initiatives of the institution while enhancing the Babson experience for the student. When assessing your need for a Graduate Assistant, please keep in mind your commitments as a supervisor:
1. The assignment is a commitment for the duration of the program in which the student GA is enrolled.
· For example, a Two-Year MBA student will be assigned to you for 2 years. The award is renewable in the second year provided the student remains in good academic standing (as defined by the Student Handbook), completes Assistantship work satisfactorily, and continues on target with their hours.
2. The position must include responsibilities that allow for a Graduate Assistant to complete the 160 required hours (per academic year).
· The program is built to allow for some flexibility to manage both the GA position and the students’ academic commitments. However, it is important that the students do not fall behind in their hours. If a student is to fall behind, we will ask that you and the student create a plan/schedule for making up the hours.
· While classes are in session, students cannot work more than 20 hours per week by law.
o Students can work up to 40-hour workweeks during breaks (provided this meets your project needs).
3. Maintain consistent communication with your Graduate Assistant.
- It is important to check in with your Graduate Assistant on a consistent basis. Once they begin a project, we recommend having check points along the way for feedback to ensure the end result is what you are expecting.
