The Opportunity

Some roles give you a slice of the finance function. This one gives you all of it and is effectively a Divisional CFO role.

A leading ASX-listed services group, and one of Australia's most prominent businesses, is seeking a Divisional Head of Finance to lead the finance function of its flagship member firm. With a national footprint, a global client base and a Group CFO who has deliberately structured this role for maximum breadth and accountability, this is an opportunity that comes along rarely at this level.

As the Divisional Head of Finance you will own the P&L, the balance sheet, FP&A, compliance, working capital and commercial partnering, end-to-end, in a business that generates significant revenue and operates at the intersection of professional services and listed-entity rigour. You will report directly to the Group CFO, who has been clear: three years in this role, done well, and you will be CFO-ready. Not in theory. In practice, because the breadth of what you will own here is exactly what a CFO needs to have lived through.

 

The Role

Reporting to the Group CFO, and a dotted line to the Divisional MD, you will take full ownership of the finance function for the flagship division of this leading ASX-listed group. Key responsibilities include,

•  Owning the full P&L and balance sheet end-to-end, management reporting, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations and analytical commentary to the Group CFO and Managing Director

•  Leading forward-looking FP&A across the business, forecasting, headcount analysis, margin optimisation and budgeting across practice group revenue targets

•  Partnering strategically with the Managing Director and practice group leaders, becoming a trusted commercial voice in a business where finance has historically played a support role

•  Managing statutory compliance obligations, income tax, GST, FBT and listed-entity reporting requirements

•  Owning working capital and cash management, actively managing debtors and AP to improve cash conversion across a high-volume, transaction-intensive operation

•  Leading and developing a team of approximately 18 people across financial accounting, accounts payable and credit control: including offshore staff

•  Building the commercial finance capability the business needs, FP&A discipline, practice group analysis and financial insight that drives decisions rather than records them

 

About You

You are a CPA or CA-qualified finance leader with genuine depth across both technical accounting and commercial business partnering, someone who is as comfortable in a month-end review as they are in a room with senior stakeholders, making the commercial case for a decision. You have led teams and know what it takes to bring people on a journey. You do not wait to be asked. You are the person who walks into a business meeting with an opinion, builds relationships before they are needed, and earns credibility through consistency and straight talk. You understand that the path to CFO runs through roles like this one  and you are ready to take it.
