Chief Accountant - Interim

Our client is a food manufacturing company looking for an experienced Chief Accountant on an interim base to support its operations in a transition period.

CHIEF ACCOUNTANT - Interim

The role is responsible for maintaining a smooth, accurate, and compliant accounting function, coordinating monthly and annual closing activities, ensuring adherence to Hungarian accounting and tax requirements, and providing timely and reliable financial reporting. You will work closely with the Finance team, Operations, and Group Finance.

THE JOB

• Oversee and coordinate daily accounting activities
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes
• Prepare balance sheet, P&L, and other financial reports
• Ensure compliance with Bulgarian accounting and tax legislation
• Coordinate tax filings and statutory reporting
• Review general ledger postings, reconciliations, and accounting records
• Oversee accounting for inventory, raw materials, and production costs
• Coordinate external audits and liaise with tax advisors and relevant authorities
• Partner closely with Group Finance and the Finance Director
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and efficiency

THE PERSON

• University degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline
• Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting experience, ideally within manufacturing or FMCG
• Previous experience as a Chief Accountant, Accounting Manager, or in a comparable role
• Strong knowledge of Bulgarian accounting and tax regulations
• Proven experience with monthly and year-end closing and statutory reporting
• Experience with inventory and cost accounting in a manufacturing environment is an advantage
• Strong Excel and ERP skills
• Fluent English
• Detail-oriented, dependable, and hands-on working style
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and deliver within deadlines
