You will play a key role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of fortnightly payroll while supporting compliance, maintaining payroll data integrity, and delivering an exceptional employee experience. Role Overview
Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this Payroll Officer position will focus on the end-to-end processing of Australian payroll, maintaining employee records, managing payroll changes across the employee lifecycle, and ensuring compliance with Australian payroll legislation and Modern Awards.
On a daily basis, you will process payroll transactions, respond to employee enquiries, reconcile payroll data, and work closely with HR and Finance to ensure payroll accuracy. You will also support payroll reporting, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing payroll processes and employee experience.
This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, thrives on accuracy, and is passionate about delivering exceptional payroll outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Process accurate and timely fortnightly Australian payroll
- Manage payroll transactions across the employee lifecycle, including new starters, terminations, salary changes, and leave processing
- Maintain accurate payroll, HRIS, and time & attendance records
- Ensure payroll compliance with Australian legislation, Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements, and company policies
- Respond to employee payroll enquiries and provide exceptional customer service
- Reconcile payroll reports and resolve payroll discrepancies
- Partner with HR, Finance, and external payroll providers to support payroll operations
- Assist with payroll reporting, audits, month-end activities, and payroll-related projects
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes and operational efficiencies
- Maintain strict confidentiality and ensure compliance with internal controls
Candidate Profile:
You are an experienced Payroll Officer with a strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and a passion for delivering accurate, compliant payroll services. You enjoy working in a collaborative environment and are confident managing competing priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
You will bring experience processing end-to-end payroll within a medium to large organisation, along with strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across HR, Finance, and the wider business. You are proficient in Microsoft Excel and have experience using payroll and time & attendance systems, ideally Humanforce or a similar platform.
Most importantly, you are organised, proactive, customer-focused, and committed to continuous improvement while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism.
