SUMMARY

Northline Seafoods is a seafood processing company with land-based plant operations in Bellingham, WA and seasonal Alaska operations. We are seeking a proactive, hands-on Safety Coordinator to support a safe, compliant, and prevention-focused workplace at our Bellingham production facility.

This role will support safety across production, sanitation, maintenance, quality assurance, warehouse, refrigeration, and facility operations. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for maintaining a visible presence throughout the facility, identifying and addressing workplace hazards, coordinating safety training, investigating incidents, and supporting consistent compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements. The Safety Coordinator will work closely with employees, supervisors, managers, and contractors to promote a strong safety culture and ensure safe work practices are consistently followed throughout the Bellingham facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct routine safety inspections of production areas, warehouses, freezers, docks, maintenance spaces, and employee facilities; document findings and track corrective actions to completion.
  • Maintain safety programs, procedures, records, postings, training documentation, and required reports in accordance with OSHA, Washington State L&I, fire code, and company requirements.
  • Lead new-hire orientation, toolbox talks, refresher training, and instruction in PPE, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, machine guarding, forklift safety, emergency response, ergonomics, and cold-environment safety.
  • Investigate injuries, near misses, chemical exposures, and property damage; identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and monitor trends while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Monitor safe practices around seafood-processing machinery, conveyors, vacuum-packaging equipment, freezers, forklifts, sanitation chemicals, wet floors, and energized equipment.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness, evacuation drills, and inspections of eyewash stations, showers, extinguishers, first-aid supplies, spill kits, exits, and ammonia-refrigeration response readiness.
  • Review contractor and project safety requirements for equipment installation, electrical, refrigeration, welding, rigging, hot work, confined spaces, and elevated work.
  • Prepare safety metrics and reports, participate in safety and management meetings, and support continuous improvement without unnecessarily disrupting production.
  • Other duties as assigned

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of experience in safety, manufacturing, food processing, maintenance, construction, or a related industrial environment preferred

  • Proficiency with email, spreadsheets, word-processing programs, and electronic recordkeeping systems
  • Safety degree or certification preferred
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification preferred
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred
  • Experience in seafood processing or food manufacturing preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred
  • Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and coach employees respectfully
