The AVP – Backup & Storage Engineering is accountable for the design, implementation, and operation of enterprise backup and storage services across a highly regulated APAC environment. The role is responsible for ensuring solutions meet enterprise standards for resiliency, auditability, and regulatory compliance, while driving automation and integration with emerging AI-enabled operational capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support design, implementation, enhancement, and lifecycle management of enterprise backup and recovery solutions, including Commvault and/or NetBackup platforms.
- Maintain enterprise storage solutions spanning SAN, NAS, Object Storage, and Cloud-integrated storage services.
- Ensure backup and recovery services support business continuity, disaster recovery, and operational resilience requirements.
- Define and maintain platform roadmaps, technology standards, and engineering best practices aligned with MUFG strategic objectives.
- Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise for backup and storage technologies across the APAC infrastructure landscape.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve resiliency, efficiency, and risk management.
Operational Resilience & Service Reliability
- Ensure platform services consistently meet established Recovery Time Objectives (RTO), Recovery Point Objectives (RPO), availability, and operational performance targets.
- Lead recovery validation exercises, disaster recovery testing, and resilience assessments to verify recoverability of critical applications and infrastructure.
- Proactively identify and remediate platform risks, technical debt, capacity constraints, and service vulnerabilities.
- Drive platform stability, availability, and service excellence through continuous service improvement initiatives.
- This role operates in the Singapore Time zone.
Automation & Innovation
- Develop and implement automation solutions utilizing PowerShell, Python, APIs, and orchestration technologies.
- Integrate intelligent operational capabilities, analytics, and AI-driven solutions to strengthen predictive maintenance, monitoring, service optimization, and operational efficiency.
- Champion Infrastructure-as-Code, automated provisioning, and standardized operational processes where applicable.
- Reduce manual effort and operational risk through workflow automation and process optimization.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Ensure all backup and storage services operate in compliance with MUFG policies, technology standards, cybersecurity controls, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, architectural artefacts, operational procedures, and support models.
- Support internal, external, regulatory, and management audits through evidence preparation, control validation, and remediation tracking.
- Partner with Risk Management, Information Security, Architecture, and Compliance teams to ensure effective control implementation and policy adherence.
- Manage findings, risk treatments, and corrective actions in accordance with established governance processes.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, security, cloud, and business technology teams to ensure backup and recovery requirements are incorporated throughout solution lifecycles.
- Engage with regional and global stakeholders to align technology solutions with business and regulatory needs.
- Manage strategic vendor relationships, technology partners, and support providers to ensure service quality and contractual compliance.
- Provide clear communication on service performance, operational risks, and improvement initiatives to management and stakeholders.
Job Requirements:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Relevant industry certifications in backup, storage, cloud, or infrastructure technologies are advantageous.
Professional Experience
- Minimum 8 years of experience in enterprise backup, recovery, and storage engineering within large-scale enterprise environments.
- Proven experience supporting mission-critical infrastructure in highly regulated industries such as banking, financial services, or similar sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in enterprise solution design, implementation, and operational management.
Technical Skills
- Strong expertise in Commvault and/or NetBackup administration and engineering.
- Deep understanding of SAN, NAS, Object Storage, and enterprise storage architectures.
- Experience with Windows, Linux, virtualization, and cloud-integrated infrastructure platforms.
- Strong scripting and automation capabilities using PowerShell, Python, REST APIs, and orchestration frameworks.
- Working knowledge of business continuity, disaster recovery, backup governance, and operational resilience practices.
- Familiarity with monitoring, analytics, and AI-enabled operational tooling is advantageous.
