Lead to Senior Level Piping Designer, Industrial and Pharmaceutical

Job Description

Overview 

 

We are seeking Leads and Senior Level Piping Designers to join our onsite teams in Houston, TX, Richmond, VA and Huntsville, AL and other locations. We are building a team of onsite designers consisting of various disciplines and levels of designers. This role is for on-site support for our clients field offices.

 

Your role 

• Lead piping design activities and ensure compliance with codes, standards, project requirements, and specifications.
• Preparation, 3D piping design and Equipment modeling
• Prepare designs for process piping for pharmaceutical facilities.
• Utilize PFDs and P&IDs as well as piping specs and standards for design.
• Layout complex piping systems and process equipment in a 3D environment including the preparation of isometric drawings with BOM.
• Work with in-house resources or 3rd party firms that provide 3D scanning services and assist with the necessary point cloud conversions for use in 3D model development.
• Coordinate all design for the Project Manager during all design phases of the project and be responsible in delivering the conceptual design review and basic design review.
• Identify design risks, scope changes, and constructability concerns while providing actionable technical guidance.
• Mentor design teams and support improvements to piping workflows, standards, and design quality.          
• Able to work with and coordinate multi-discipline designs with the corresponding discipline Leads.
• Be responsible for the overall design delivery for large capital project(s).
• Review progress of construction in the field.
• Demonstrate success in designing, detailing, assembly and layout of piping systems, equipment and pipe support structural systems using 2D/3D design software.
• Ability to guide other disciplines in model reviews with the client.
• Work in a team environment.
• Interface with clients, contractors, and co-workers.
• Assume a mentoring role and interact well with team members from all offices.

 

About you 

• High School diploma, Two-year degree in mechanical discipline or equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training.
• Strong Piping, leadership and time management skills
• Ability to communicate and work effectively in a team environment
• Minimum 15 years as a Piping Designer experience in an engineering design firm.
• For Piping Leads - experience requires 5 years of Lead experience
• Minimum of 5 years on site experience in a pharmaceutical facility is preferred, but similar facilities is acceptable
• Experience utilizing laser scanning software to back model as well as other field obstructions
• Experience with checking Piping Design work
• Experience with estimating piping design work
• Experienced with ASME B31.3 codes and requirements for Pharmaceutical Design
• Working knowledge of pipe stress analysis concepts and experience coordinating with stress engineers to ensure compatibility with layout and design inten Experienced with pipe support design.
• Experience working in a brown field facility
• Technical skills should include 3D Piping software Autodesk Plant 3D, SP3D or similar”,  Navisworks Manage, MS Office, MS Teams, Autodesk BIM/Forma, Bluebeam Revu, and the ability to learn and use other design software as may be required.
• Experience in the design of process support utilities in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries (USP, WFI and clean steam) is a plus.
• Having experience with mega-projects or large capital projects is a plus.
• Ability to meet deadlines in high pressure environments.
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Overtime may be necessary as workload dictates.
• Climbing, walking and ability to work and be on feet for extended periods of time is required.
• Travel to client sites is required.
• Post-secondary education from a recognized technical college as an Engineering Technologist or equivalent experience required.
• Minimum fifteen years of experience for Leads with 5 years of onsite field experience in pharma or related field
• Minimum 5 years for supporting piping designers with 2 years of relevant field experience.

Additional information 

 

Expected compensation range is between $60.00 - $75.00 hourly depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
