He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role
As Health Safety & Wellbeing Lead - Programmes, you'll play a pivotal role in supporting the safe delivery of Watercare's capital programme. Working closely with programme leaders, project teams, contractors and consultants, you'll help embed a contemporary approach to health, safety and wellbeing across complex infrastructure projects, driving capability, strengthening risk management and creating the conditions for safe, effective and productive work.
In this role, you will:
- Partner with programme and project leaders to embed Health, Safety and Wellbeing practices across the full project lifecycle.
- Coach and influence leaders, project teams and delivery partners to strengthen safety leadership and critical risk management.
- Lead collaborative risk review and learning activities that drive improvement and build organisational capability.
- Use performance data, assurance insights and field engagement to identify trends and support evidence-based decision making.
- Facilitate collaboration across internal teams, contractors and suppliers to create practical and sustainable safety outcomes.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen critical controls and improve how work is performed.
- Provide leadership, coaching and development to HSW team members while fostering a culture of learning, trust and high performance.

You'll be an experienced HSW professional who is equally comfortable influencing senior leaders, partnering with contractors and coaching teams in the field.
To be successful, you'll bring:
- Significant experience leading Health, Safety and Wellbeing within large-scale infrastructure, utilities, construction or other complex, high-risk environments.
- Strong knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation, contractor management and critical risk management principles.
- Proven ability to influence, coach and build trusted relationships across a broad range of stakeholders.
- A contemporary safety leadership mindset that focuses on learning, engagement and improving how work is performed.
- Strong facilitation, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complexity and drive practical outcomes.
- Experience using data, assurance findings and operational insights to improve performance and support informed decision making.
- A relevant qualification in Health and Safety or a related discipline, with professional registration considered an advantage.
