CNC Machinist

Description

We are hiring a CNC Lathe Machinist to support our manufacturing operation in a shop-based environment. This role is focused on independently setting up and operating Fanuc-controlled Haas and Willis lathes to produce precision parts to print, maintain tight tolerances, complete required documentation, and support safe, reliable production. The work requires strong technical judgment, close attention to specifications, and consistent execution within established quality and shop standards.

Requirements

•  Program, set up, and operate Fanuc-controlled Haas and Willis CNC lathes to produce parts to print
• Edit and optimize machine code at the control or through software as needed to support part quality and efficient production
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, setup sheets, and work order specifications before beginning production
• Select and install tooling, inserts, boring bars, parting tools, and work holding fixtures for each job
• Set up jobs independently, including chucking, soft jaw preparation, tool offsets, work offsets, and verification of tool paths
• Monitor machining operations closely to maintain dimensional accuracy, repeatability, and required surface finish
• Conduct in-process and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, thread gauges, and other precision measuring tools
• Maintain tight tolerances, typically ±0.001" or tighter depending on part requirements
• Troubleshoot machining issues such as chatter, taper, tool wear, chip evacuation, and dimensional drift, escalating concerns when needed
• Complete setup sheets, tool lists, inspection records, material traceability documentation, and other required production reporting in a timely manner
• Perform routine operator-level machine maintenance, including coolant checks, lubrication, chip management, and basic mechanical upkeep
• Operate a forklift or pallet jack safely to move raw material, finished parts, tooling, and pallets as needed
• Support material handling and general shop duties, including staging jobs, organizing inventory, deburring parts, cleaning machines, and maintaining an orderly work area
• Collaborate with engineering and operations to improve tooling approaches, reduce cycle times, and strengthen process reliability
• Perform all work in compliance with ISO, API, QHSE, company, and regulatory standards

Required Skills & Abilities

• Ability to work carefully within established procedures, specifications, and quality requirements
• Strong attention to dimensional accuracy, inspection detail, and production documentation
• Ability to set up and run CNC lathe jobs independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to interpret blueprints, tolerances, and machining instructions accurately
• Sound judgment in recognizing when machining conditions, measurements, or setup results fall outside approved limits
• Working knowledge of Fanuc-controlled turning centers, tooling selection, cutter geometry, and turning operations
• Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and inspection methods
• Ability to sustain focus in hands-on machining work while maintaining repeatable workmanship standards
• Willingness to shift between machining, inspection, material handling, and general shop support based on production needs

Other Requirements

• 2+ years of CNC lathe machining experience, preferably with Fanuc controls
• Experience with Haas and Willis lathes preferred
• Experience with threading, boring, facing, grooving, parting, and OD/ID turning
• Ability to lift 40–50 lbs and stand for extended periods
• Ability to perform work on-site in the shop
• Willingness to support overtime, cross-training, and other assigned shop duties as needed
